I've been using an ATI 9100 for several years now and desperately need a vid card upgrade. What's the best bang for the buck for my processor? I'm not planning on upgrading the CPU for at least another two full years.

Thanks,

I'd go 6800GT or x800xl so you can increase the res, AA&AF and take more of the load off the CPU.

Yes, you can run as much card as you want too. As long as the cpu can keep the minimum framerate up, then the more powerful the video card, the better.

The X800XT would be overkill. Remember, $$$ is important here. The 6600GT is a good option, as is a 9800 Pro. I've read about the Sapphire 9800 Pro 128MB card actually using the R360 (9800XT) gpu with the R350 bios. Is this true? If so, I assume it would be flashable to a 9800XT?

time has caught up on the athlon xps...your cpu will be a bottleneck to a 6800 or x800..and maybe even 6600gt....i think 9800pro might be fine.

I believe the R360 core cards are flashable to an 9800XT.

No it's not.. Well maybe @ 800x600 or 1024x768.. But who plays @ that resolution?

I had a 6800GT in my AXP @ 2.4ghz and it KICKED ass...

It ain't that bad yet. The rig in my sig only does about 300 or 400 points lower than other rigs running A64 3200s, which is perfectly fine by me considering the money that I put into it.

The real world difference is negligable.

6800GT AGP. If you want to keep your system for 2 years, you'll want a powerful card, SM3.0 support and one cheaper than x800xl but not crazy $500 expensive like x850xt pe.

Nah, my XP-M at 2.4-2.6 ghz was a bottleneck to a 6800U easily.

In source, it couldnt keep a solid 100 fps with aa/af.

Switching to an A64 changed that.
