Hi, first time poster here. I'm in the process of building a gaming rig, but I don't know what to get when it comes to the 3d card. I've got a 19" LCD monitor, so my top resolution would be 1280x1024. Now I've heard that cards such as the 7800gtx are really only beneficial if you're playing at 1600x1200 or higher, but I'm not sure if this is true. So, what's the best card for me to get?

Oh, and I don't really have a budget per se, but I don't plan on spending my life savings for just a video card either.

You can still make perfect use of a 7800gtx at that resolution. Havne't you noticed that most "gaming" branded monitors are of the 19" variety? 1280x1024 + 16x AF + 8x AA = a lot of juice... Let's let's not forget HDR ar well.

If you don't mind spending it, I'm sure the GTX will help in upcoming next gen games, otherwise your best bet is the 7800 GT AFAIK

7800 GT is the best deal in terms of price/performance, especially if you overclock it.

I'm a X800 GTO^2 fanboy, but at $290 the 7800GT linked to above is the best deal - actually one of the better deals in recent times. If for some reason GTO^2s fall to $199 again tomarrow that may be the way to go.
