I'm building a new system and am looking for a new video card. In the last few years I've mostly been using a Matrox G400. Since most of the cards these days are all around gaming and 3D is hard to find out what will be a good card for my application. My requirements are as follows:

- Rock solid stable drivers
- Highest quality 2D performance
- Best Dual Monitor support

I mostly use this workstation for Audio and Graphics work and I play NO GAMES at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

System Specs
Abit NF7-S
Athlon XP 2400+
Crucial Dual DDR3200

I initially thought about the 550 but I thought I might do a look into what nVidia had going on before deciding to pull the trigger. The G550 is a few years old now and just trying to make sure if its still the best thing for 2D quality and dual-display support before dropping some bucks. A lot of the GF440 and Ti4200 boards are pretty cheap now but I've never used nView or any of the nVidia cards to know about the quality, etc. Basically I don't know if a high-end 3D board with tons of ram makes it decent for a 2D board, etc. Opinions?

Ended up just ordering the G450. Didn't need the DVI the 550 added and otherwise the cards are almost identical. Would still like to see who else has good multi-monitor 2D offerings.

Most mid to high end cards from ATI and Nvidia have dual output capability (mostly HD15 and DVI - very few dual DVI cards exist, and they are pretty expensive). ATI has a lead over Nvidia in 2D IQ, but it's not as noticable now as it was back a few years ago. Neither compare to Matrox in raw 2D IQ on an analog connection (also known as HD15, or VGA).
