I Have a P4 3Gig on an Aopen MB with 200 gig HD, 1gig mem and AGP. Monitor is a 17" Princeton CRT.
I do a lot with the normal Office products as well as Photoshop. I also do a lot of AutoCad and Solidworks. I am starting to get into some animation software and looking at Moho and Toon Boom. I also do some video editing on Premiere Elements.
Right now I am using a Chaintech Geforce 4 MX440 salvaged from another machine. Works fine on regular stuff but I'm not sure about the animation and Video. I'm not much into games.
I have about $100.00 to spend. I'm looking at an EVGA 6600GT 128 meg for #120.00 could be overkill. I am also considering a ATI 9550 256 meg for $90.00. A Sapphire 9600 pro 256 meg for $78 or eVGA 6200 for $60.00 (I like the HS only, could cut down on Fan noice). I've tried to find reviews on all and they all have merit. I have eliminated a few others. I Would consider a Sapphire x700 128 meg for $104.00 but the pric seems high for tech that old.
Anyone out there experienced with this sort of software that can speak to my needs and make a suggestion?

If you can afford the extra cash, this makes for a good rendering card. FireGL 9600 These specific cards will give much more suitable performance in CAD then regular cards. The FireGL 9600 is a CAD adapted 9600, so it plays games almost as well as a regular 9600.

dont bother with a 256meg card. cad apps dont use the extra ram. a 9800pro is fine for inventor, autocad, solidworks, premier ect...

the only problem with the opengl apps is your limited on the amount of accelerated windows you can have open. its usually not a problem tho. i use inventor & autocad daily with a 9800pro 128meg.
