Hello all

My vid card died on me and I am now looking for a stop gap until the prices on 9800XT drop. My intial thought is for the 9600 pro though the places selling seem a bit shady any thoughts or ideas

Thanks for your time and help

130 i think you could find a 9600pro somewhere.. if not a 9600NP and overclock it... dont go with a FX5200 or 5600... ever =P. Just spend the extra 15-20 for the 9600Pro... its a great card

9600pro, or check hot deals I thought I saw a 9600xt for around $150 (probably after rebate).

yeah, depending on what you really require
or put it aside until nv40/rv420 come out and prices on current cards fall some more

otherwise a 9600 pro would be the thing, dont go somewhere shady. go to newegg or zipzoomfly or somewhere like that, good places with usually pretty good prices

I am saving the money for the 9800XT. Hoping with the release of the nv40/rv420 will drop the price on the "old" generation ;)

I think after what you all have said I am just going to spend the extra $20 or so if need be for the 9600 Pro

Thanks for your input

If money's tight, don't bother with the 9800XT -- the 9800Pro 128MB is only a few percent slower in most benches, but $100-200 cheaper.

I agree that the 9600Pro 128MB is a pretty good stopgap card. If you can live with that for 4-6 months, you should be able to get a good deal on a 9800-series card.
