I want to upgrade my video so that i can have AA on Doom/HalfLife/FarCry at 1024x768. With a 3.0 ghz intel and a gig of ram, will a 6600GT do the trick or will I need to go higher end? If higher, how far could i go before my cpu becomes a bottleneck? I like ATI so i thought about waiting for the x800 XL to come out, which i heard was early this year. Would it be better to wait a month or so?

I've got a dell 8400 with an x300 right now, also I don't know what kind of power supply I have, but I would rather get a new card that doesn't require a bigger one than what dell gave me. I'd like to keep it as simple as I can, and I'm trying not to spend over $300 unless it would be well worth it.

By the way, what is the major factor when it comes to AA?Is it the ram on the card?

i wouldn't recommend buying a vid card over 300 anyway since the depreciation rate on video cards is so fast

i have a 9800pro and i played all those games w/out AA/AF and it really isn't something you notice when you're blasting away :)

save $100 and buy a good set of surround speakers with it...IMO good speakers far outweigh AA/AF in these games

i think you are diffenately on the right track with a 6600GT. about the lowest power consumption of any new card, great perfromer, and good price.
