Skoorb, if you're ever in CT area I'd gladly give you a ride :) I'm almost certain you'll change your opinion. Most of the negative things said about this car are said by car magazines. I'll never understand why they hate this car and love the 3 series so much. My buddy owns a loaded 325xi and in all honestly I prefer my car to his. The only good thing about his car is all wheel drive, but I'm thinking about picking up a used wrangler to get me around in the winter. Driving RWD during winter in new england isn't fun :(

Lets say your car wasn't an MBZ, would you still buy it? Would it still be worth the price if everything else were the same?

Absolutely not. I'm not denying that's a big reason I bought that car. I'm also not denying that it's a low end mercedes. But heck, I'm 22 years old (21 when I first bought it) and hopefully I'll be able to buy something nicer in the future. I'm pretty sure it'll be another German car. Maybe SLK320 or C330Ci :)

In short, I love this car, my friends love this car, my coworkers love this car, random strangers on the street seem to like it - therefore I'm happy :) And after all said and done, isn't that the reason you a buy a car?

I buy a car for functionality, not to wave my ego around. If you truely want to make the compromise of driving a sh!t box instead of something you enjoy, so be it.

Oh, just so you know, I hate your car. :)

I got news for ya buddy, any person who spends more than 10k on a car buys it for their EGO. If all you care about is functionality then you should be driving a used Camry or Accord. If that's true, more power to you. RxL77 wants to spend over 30k on his care so I'm pretty sure he'll want to take good care of his ego.

EGO or not, its worthless buying a 'prestigous' brand even though the product is underpowered

C class and the initial 3 series are totally not worth it when u can get higher end lexus, infinity and acura's for about the same and no i dont care for the name or some random ppl coming up to me and saying it loos cute, i want more bang for buck thank you

I would agree with you to a certain extent but I have to say, the Mercedes and BMW do hold their value quite well. Look at a used 3 series, they aren't much less than a new one on a dealer lot. My wife has a 1994 325i with 120k miles on it and those are selling for almost 10 grand! The freakin car is 10 years old!!!

You sure about that?

I priced my 95 325i w/90K miles a while ago and I got a lot less. My friend's 96 M3 w/50K miles is only worth $13K.

I don't understand why does the ATOT hate the C class. Must be a nerd thing. Everybody I know likes my car. I have people come up to me on the street and comment on it. How many people would do that if I drove an accord? Yeah, I'd have 60 more horse powers but I'd look like every other guy on the road.

And btw, the interior is way better than any japanese car. Not to mention features like automatic head lamps, autosensing wipers, climate control, panorama sunroof, etc, which are not available on most japanese counterparts.

mb's are expensive to service, not very reliable in the long run, most people see mercedes benz and say ooh wow nice car, based on name, and our old q45 had a lot softer leather in the interior than my cousin's C does @.@

Many people never end up getting the car that is perfect for them. They end up with a car that they "think" they want and spend the rest of the time justifying their purchase. This is how a market can support so many brands and models with such varying levels of quality.

That was a 2004 if it had the funky roof.

G35 coupe is the best, but a tough buy at $33k.
Acura TL is my choice.
Old man's car with a slush box :)

Go test drive one before you say that!!

For that coin, I would buy either the STI or the G35 coupe.

If I had that kind of money, I would probably get a Certified Pre-Owned E39 530i

It's got a bigger in-line 6 cylinder than the 525i, but not the gas guzzling V8 in the 540i. Plus I love those Angel Eye headlights and LED tail lights!

I'm probably never going to buy a brand new car unless I become filthy rich, so I will let someone else get hit with the depreciation.

Yeah...although Audi of America has a bit to polish upon in the customer service and a bit to improve on the reliability.

Btw, Audi's Quattro system is superior to bmw's "xi" awd system. Most people who buy a bmw don't get the xi.

I have read from several reviews that the engine on the C230 coupe/hatchback is noisy because of the supercharger, and the suspension feel is lacking compared to a bmw or audi. Mercedes did reduce the displacement in the more recent C230 coupes (forget exactly what year they started this) to 1.8 litres (from 2.2? I think), as an effort to help refine the smoothness of the engine. I can't remember exactly if the power is the same.

As for me, I'd get the bmw, nothing can really beat the smoothness of a six cylinders' power delivery. Although I would give the A4 a serious look because of the advantages of the quattro system, however, the six on the A4 does cost a bit more.
