What's the best car for under 20k?

I'm considering the Celica GTS or Honda Accord coupe.

And how can I beat the 3k insurance rate for it? How can I get the best price on auto insurance?

C'mon, you gotta give some details.

New or Used?
Performance or simply performance "looks"?
Sporty or more luxurious ride?
2 or 4 doors?
Auto or stick?
Driving history? 3K/year or every 6 months? How old are you?

Get a better insurance provider. I pay around 1600 a year for a 2-door coupe in insurance.

Best price on auto insurance is if you're not a male between 16 and 25!
Ok, that's not in your control so try becoming a secondary driver and say the car is for pleasure and not everyday use.

And don't get a Honda, everyone has one of those! Be different.

well one of the sure fire ways to reduce insurance rates is dependent on the car you have. typically a 2-door car (esp. if a coupe/sports car) will have higher rates. also if you have a flashy color, the rates will also go up. i would have to say that a guarantee in a lowering of your insurance rate is to not get 2-door cars like the celica or accord coupe.

maybe something like the jetta? just a suggestion.

Hell drive a beater if your under 25 unless you can really afford it. I got qouted $3600(that was with shopping around) a year for a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE.

I'm looking into new cars and I'm a college student. I suppose I could put it under my parents' name. Would that lower it? I couldn't think of anything very luxurious under 20 k.. Preferably coupe, auto or manual is good. Clean driving history but still dealing with 3k a year.

Don't live in NJ
Park it in a garage
Have ABS
Get married and have kids
Sex change operation
Get a wagon
Get an auto
Get an alarm system
Register under parent's name
Be the secondary driver
Get at least a B average
Don't commute in it

Yes, it'll definately lower it, especially if they already have a car.

99 Impreza wagon, I got quoted $2400/year for full coverage with low detuctibles (as 21, clean history). I ended up getting in under my parents plan as their second car and I was the secondary driver, their insurance only went up about $400/year, same plan.

SRT-4 is the only car under $20k that is interesting to me. The GTS is to peaky.

Get a $2k car and put liability on it. Thats about the only way you are going to get anywhere near cheap insurance.
