Best car for $3-4.5k?

I had been putting off my car search but am now doing research again.

The cars in that range that had the best reviews were the Acura Legend (personal favorite) and the Nissan Maxima. I havn't had time to look through every car out there, but the driver's of these cars love them, say they are fun to drive, and have quite alot of power.

I've concluded the Maxima is the way to go because of availability, and people seem to be more willing to charge actual blue book private party rather than the Legend seller's who seem to want dealer retail or more.

The only other way I was considering going is an early 90's Accord. Saw one with everything working for 1,995 that came with a 90-day warranty. But I figure if I'm going to spend that much no matter what, why not throw down another grand and get the car I really want.

Anyone else want to throw some advice or other models to look for my way?

For 4-5k you can get a 95-97 Maxima. If you don't care about the goodies, get a 97 GXE - same engine, just no gizmos. If you want all the features, get a 95-96 GLE. Most 95-97 cars will have at least 80k miles - but thats not much for the VQ30DE engine - they run for ever - assuming the regular maintenance has been performed. Treat it well and it will serve you well for years.

Maxima and Accord are probably your most reliable buys in that segment and for that price. Can't really think of anything else you should look at.

Good luck. 🙂
