Looks the same as the A540 except missing the optical viewfinder.

Not really, but sure. If you're going to get the A540, get it from OD, they have a $75 MIR good through today.

one of the largest differences is size. the A540 is MORE than 2x the volume of the SD600. you can walk around all day with the SD600 in your pocket and not even know it is there. It is about the size of an average sized cell phone. The A540 will be bulky in your pocket.

basically you have to answer is life long comfort worth the one time payment of 30 bucks.

SD600 is by far superior... plus you get rid of the need for stupid AA batteries. 1000mah batteries can be had from ebay for like 6 bucks and they last about 350+ shots with flash, lcd on and preview on. Oh yeh they only take like an hour to charge too.

Thats b/c you're looking at the MP and the zoom, which besides that they are both made my Canon, are the only main things they have in common.

Im not really either, a quick compare on bestbuy.com will tell you all you need to know.

A540
cheaper
uses AAs
more control
larger

SD600
more expensive
uses rechargable LithIon
smaller/slimer

Basically, either way, you can't really go wrong.

you have to ask yourself what you are going to be using the camera for. If it is just going to sit around the house and take pictures every once and a while then the A540 is fine. However, if you are ever going to go on hiking trips, trips to theme parks, or trips where you will be carrying the camera for more than an hour or two, the SD600 is the one you will want to go with for two main reasons:

1 - the camera doesn't get uncomfortable, you can carry it all day and not notice it.
2 - you can take more continuous pictures with the SD600 between charge ups because it doesn't use AAs

QFT

I own a A620 and SD450 now. The A620 is a great camera for technical work at a low cost...plus AA batteries can be bought anywhere. I use this for important pics.

My (actually I bought it for my wife) SD450, is everywhere she goes. The proprietary battery packs sometimes have caused a missed pic though. 90% of the pics this camera takes are perfect.

Also both cameras have excellent video sections with audio.

cool thanks!

I think I am leaning towards the SD600.

I just wish the SD600 accepted 2 AA batteries.

Yeah me too. My sister is going to take the camera on a trip to Japan and taking lots and lots of pictures. I don't want the battery to die half-way through the day. I guess as long as she can charge it every night then it will be ok. Need to buy a power converter for Jap outlets though I think. Do they sell regular AA's in Japan?
