Basically, I don't know a whole lot about camcorders. Nor does my boss. We want basically, a digital camera, that just has to record traffic flow from the side of a road.

Resolution needn't be awesome, so long as we can make out vehicle types!

Ideally would be able to record up to 3 or 4 hours unattended.

Want it digital so we can go through the video on a PC as easily as possible.

Any input is welcomed, as I said, expecting around £250-£300, more is available though if necessary, but as we don't need anything special, hopefully £300 would be enough.

Thanks

I don't think consumer-grade cameras will do much more than an hour or so of footage, maybe 90 minutes. 3-4 hours is certainly pushing it, and battery life will also be a concern.

Yeah, I got that impression from having a look around.

Im reading MiniDV is the best format for getting as much footage as possible?

If we used a Plextor ConvertX and a Laptop, could we record directly to the hard disk? Any extra software necessary? Bearing in mind the camera won't be moving, so using a laptop isn't a problem.

Yeah OK, thought about that a bit, too much hassle, laptop battery won't last, etc etc.

D'ah well.
