Best cable for WII

I have a Wii attached to a nice big screen lcd Full HDTV.

Unfortunately, the graphics look horrid. Like runing 680 x 420 on a 24 inch computer lcd screen.

What is the best connection for the Wii? (HDMI, component, etc.)

Do I have to set the TV to a certain resolution for it to look better?

The Wii is SD, no HD graphics here. Component cables will give it the best picture though, you can pick up a good cheap pair at monoprice

 Mine cost 7 bucks.

The Wii outputs a resolution of 720x480. And like you said, it IS exactly like running a "680x420 on a 24 inch computer LCD screen". If your HDTV is 32" or bigger, then it is actually worse than what you just described. That's just how the Wii is, built for standard definition output.

The component cables will help, I think it makes the Wii look a lot better on my 720p set. It's still only outputting at 480p, though, so it isn't going to look nearly as crisp as a 360 or PS3. 🙂

I'm also using a generic component cable and it works great, I wouldn't pay $25 or whatever it costs for the Nintendo one, just pick up a monoprice cable. They make pretty good gear.

When I had my Wii, 480p over component to my 42" 1080p LCD looked pretty darn good.....well, as good as a Gamecube, I mean a Wii could look.
