What the best DSL/Cable router for $150 or less. I was thinking of the Netgear RT311, but are there any better options from Linksys or D-link? I'm looking for something with 1 ethernet port (already'll have a switch), and provides good protection.

I've got the linksys BEFSR11, which is the one port cable/dsl router, but if you want the built in switch, you could get the linksys BEFSR41, which is a 4 port 10/100 switch built in to the router...

It works and has a built in firewall, which is nice. I'm sure the others do too, but I've only had the experience with Linksys. If you do get one, I suggest you update the firmware on it though, as I had some problems when I first got mine, but they were immediately fixed after I updated the firmware.

:)

If you have any questions you can ask here, PM me, or email me. Whichever works best, I'll try to help you out, at least with any knowledge on the linksys routers.

I recommend the Netgear, they make quality, sturdy products. And routers get abused.

I second the Netgear, especially the RP114 and the older RT314. Fast, stable routers. Another nice, stable router is the D-Link DI-704.

It all just depends really on what products you're comfortable with or ones that you've used in the past... because everyones going to have different opinions on different products...

My network consists of a netgear switch (5 port 10/100 and I love it), the linksys router (love that too) my modem and a HP print server...

It all depends on what products or companies you trust, basically.
