Im building a C2D system and going to OC on air (was thinking in ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED). Any suggestions will help.

I don't know what your budget is or what you'll be doing with it, but I like my new setup a lot. Probably not the best, and I'm not at my maximum overclock there, but it hauls none the less. Oblivion runs smooth as silk.

just my $0.02

Well, it appears that one thing is true: the stock cooling blows! (No pun intended)

One more thing, if you are considering the DS3, you may want to shop around for memory, I don't know that I would recommend the OCZ I've got. I have had no problems with it personally, but I know that others have.

If you're on a budget, you can get the Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 for $16+S/H. If you wanna spend a little more, you can get the Scythe Ninja Plus 6 for $36+S/H. For top of the line CPU air cooling, there's the Scythe Infinity for $53+S/H

Yeah, that Scythe Ninja Plus 6 is OOS all over the place. Xoxide.com has it in stock for $38+S/H.

I'm trying to decide between the TR SI-128, TRUltra-120 and the Scyth Infinity. I just don't know what to do :(

Scythe Infinity is 3 pounds. If it were me, I'd have my system lying side ways, 'cause you don't know when the big hunk of metal's gonna snap and fall off your mobo.

Yea, that's the #1 reason why I haven't bought the Infinity. My system is vertical 99% of the time and...just...ugh. Too huge.

Thanks so the "Scythe Infinity" is the best performer, is any other with better performance (only air) ?.
Thanks a lot.

I got the scythe infinity.

Yeh, it's heavy but it's not 'that' heavy... as long as your motherboard is mounted properly it's very unlikely it's actually going to damage it ... of course i've only had this up and runnning for 24 hours so that's not exactly a long term experience, just my opinion.

As to its effectiveness ... I have a E6400 o/c'd at 3.2GHz and it idles at <30C and load has never gone above 53C, so it's pretty effective.

I am getting a little better results with the Scythe Infinity than the Tuniq Tower now. What I like about the Scythe is changing out to a high flow 120mm if you plan on cranking up the FSB with a Conroe.

How'd you find the install for the scythe Gary? To me it was one of more painless heatsink installs.

And what kind of temps are you getting for whatever system you're running it on?

Well my question is on and off topic at the same time. Is there any cases that are like a stereo (sideways) that will be able to fit the scythe infinity? Suggestions?

Scythe Infinity beats the rest of them with the possible exception of a Tuniq Tower which hasn't been available for some time.

It's also very easy to mount.

Don't worry too much about the weight unless you're constantly hauling around your system.

Hmm... I have exact same chip and OC, but uses the Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 and gets 56C running Orthos.

Infinity = $60 shipped
Freezer Pro 7 = $27 shipped

$33 for -3C? Hmmm....

You can't compare directly like that, sorry. Different air flow in cases, less\more obstruction caused by wires and layout, different ambient temps, possibly different motherboards which report temps differently...

Hmm... you're right. I do have very low room temperature in my house, which is usually around 23C.

I used an Antec P180 and a Thermaltake Big Typhoon ^__^ with only two 120mm case fans at VERY low speeds, and a PSU 120mm fan. extremely quiet, and I got to 2.8Ghz on an E6300, didn't want to go farther, though, since I didn't have the time to.
