Ok I'm stuck in the middle ages. I've programmed in almost every major language but C++ (I have used a C variant sparingly though). I now must do a major project in C++. What is the best free compiler to download? It must run on WinNT and Win95.

I use the bordland C++ and Ms Vis Studio.
I do prefer Vis studio though.
One of my friends who uses borland says he has problems with pointers and crashing the software. I cant verify it because I dont use it much.
Occasionaly I use Codewarrior, which I used to like for Java, but it seems slow compared to Vis Studio, and besides I havent installed the glut/glui libraries for any other compiler.

Yes, you sound like you really do know what you're talking about, and you're not just trying to look smart.

I don't know what this comment was supposed to mean. I have used 15 forms of Basic, 8 forms of Fortan, Borland C+, Borland Pascal, Cobol, some JAVA, done assembly programming, and even one language that forced you to be polite to the compiler (it required pleases and thank yous after every few commands). Unfortunatly the C+ compiler won't work with the C++ drivers I need to use. I wasn't tring to look smart (note my alias) but I pointed out that I have never used C++. I just meant to say that I need C++ experience and I need a free complier.

There is a small difference between C and C+ (but too minor for most people to care about). Fifteen years ago when I started programming you would see computer stores with both C and C+ compilers from the same companies (and even something called Turbo C). The C+ had a few minor improvements and cost more. So I just said that I had used the C+ compiler instead of the C compiler or the Turbo C compiler.
