I just thought I share these great buys at my local Best Buy with you. Kinda of an AnandTech exam as I wouldn't have caught these "Great" deals without reading up on building a pc here. Plus I just got a kick out em.

Without further ado:

For the Budget Minded
$350 Open Box
IBM Aptiva
AMD (ya good!) K6- 380mhz (not so good)
32MB Ram
2GIG! HD
20x CD Rom oh yaa!

Mainstream:
~$800-$900
HP
Intel 3.0E
512Mb Ram ! (even PC 3200)
160GB HD
It got 4 checks for gaming! on the ultra reliable TechCheck (TM)

The part that got me was that the lower priced AXP 3200+ only got 2 checks for gaming but 4 for photo editting yah! ;)

Our last craptacular deal of infinite suckitude.

High End
$1600!
Sony Watercooled sytem (With all due respect a pretty cool case and very quite)
Intel 3.2E whoa!
Giga pocket recorder good
Powerful NVidia FX 5200 ????? Just what I want in my 1600 dollar system.

The only intersting thing I saw there was some brand I'd never heard of with an honest to god 915 intel mobo and a PCI E Nvidia (I'm guessing) 5300 ???? for about $800.

Hope you enjoyed these as much as I did!

That is why you must always, always, always, always, always, always build it yourself! And for your friends (for a fee whether it be beer or cash):laugh::beer:[/quote]

I work at a local computer store. We have a "gamer" system that is a 3200+ Athlon 64 with a Radeon 9600 Pro card. $2200.

EDIT: We've only sold like two of those in the 9 months I've been there.

Hence why retail stores never sell systems with good video cards.

No one ever buys them, since anyone serious about gaming builds their own...or they add a good card later.

I can't believe people actually buy from best buy. I see it all the time though. You'd think the general public would know enough to at least buy a Dell. While a Dell still sucks, its suckage is nowhere near the super duper suckage of a Best Buy PC. Not to mention the fact dells are more reasonably priced.

Oh yeah.. you know what always cracks me up at Best Buy? Their installation BS. "We'll install this PCI card for you for only 20 bucks!!!!!!!!"

If I could get people to pay me 20 bucks to install a PCI card, my on the side PC business could become my primary job!

You have to work in retail to comprehend the number of incredibly retarded people out there.

Those installs are a joke for us...but there are so many people who seriously are better off paying for it than screwing around with something they know nothing about.

Some BB carry them as well. definately not worth the price, but hey, atleast it has a 5950

but we know better. we could build those in about half the price

I saw that one at our local Comp Usa. It was the only decent machine there. Coolermaster Wavemaster, Intel 3.2, 1Gig Ram hynix ram, Asus P4C800E, Sata Raid and 5950 Ultra. Of course it was way to expensive.

The other thing that was amazing at Compusa was that one of their sales associates was actually a member of Overclockers.com. He'd built Intel and AMD boxes and done his own case mods. Even had preorderd an x800 pro.(This was a month or two ago) He agreed that most of their machines sucked except for the that gaming rig.

Well there prices were very reasonable for what you got - at least compared to what else BB was selling.

Ya he was much better than the guy telling the mother and son to get the $200 FX5200 with VIVO since they wanted video capture. I suggested checking out newegg to them and getting one of the 9600XT vivo cards or a refurbed AIW for about the same price

They actually are not too bad PCs compared to some :)
I understand they are based out of Germany...or owned by a company from there, but they are built better than many retail brands.
I still wouldn't buy one though, haha.

Oh ya don't forget the Coolermaster Jet 4 and Aerogate Control Panel.

It was a nice system just too expensive.
