I don't think a BMW dealership is going to hire a kid to sell cars.

It's not too hard apparently to get a job at a car dealership.

Also good to know, and I thank you too.

It's not hard, because if you don't sell cars they don't pay you. Most people who try don't make much money and give up. Only the best salesmen make good money selling cars.

my friend makes 100k+ selling cell phones. He is number one for Verizon. If your friend is good maybe he should look at Verizon.

how many phones does he sell a day? I find it hard to beleive that he can make 100k doing that.

We'll he's 20, about to be 21, so he's not necessarily a kid.

Not totally true. I know two salesmen who are so full of sh!t it hurts, and they both make plenty money just being there when someone is set on buying a car before they even walk onto the lot.

Still kind of young for BMW I think. Especially since he doesn't have any experience selling cars. Imagine the typical BMW buyer. Do you see that guy buying a car from someone half his age? At the dealership we bought our Acura from I don't remember seeing any salesmen under 30.

Alls I'm saying is, he might have to start at a lesser dealership before he moves up to BMW.

Being full of sh!t can help you sell cars. 😉 My brother is the same way, and he was very succesful at selling cars (he manages a dealership now).

I agree. I'd be a bit turned off if the guy I was buying a car from was half my age. I dunno I just think he'd be extremely successful if given the shot.

He's like the Michael Jordan of the sales world still stuck in high school.

Also true about the being full of ****** point.

Touche! I see and acknowledge your points good sir!

Enough of this rubbish!

Best Buy has ruined my day, it will NOT ruin my night!

It's friday night, bring on the wine and fine ladies!

QFT.....However this works out, there will be tension.

Don't you get unemployment if you're laid off. Do you really get it if you're fired?

yeah i took FULL advantage of that e-pricing a year ago just as i left best buy, i believe i paid cost + 5% on a 62inch and various other crap. your brother should rob them blind of the peripherals, they cost like a dollar or so for them USB cables (which they charge like 20 bucks btw).

Is your brother going to school? He may be an excellent salesman but it would be a waste if he does not pursue a degree. Most any product needs a salesman but the salesman needs to have the educational background to sell the product. Have him obtain a skill in something and let this help him move up from the Best Buy sales floor.

Some good areas are:
  • marketing
  • insurance
  • finance
  • engineering
  • math
Maybe others can help fill in other areas.

A mechanical engineering education with a minor in sales-marketing will provide analytical thinking skills that would significantly boost his ability to "do the numbers" and make sales, whether he is selling cars or thermal imaging cameras.

Your brother can become an excellent salesman with a good sales-marketing education but a lack of knowledge in any specific skill area will limit his potential.

Your brother isn't being "attacked" because of $7, he's being attacked because of integrity issues. The store manager brought the lack of employee discounts to family members up, he went ahead and did it anyways. Plain and simple, if thats what the company dictates as stealing, then it's just as bad as shoplifting.

Now, a second aspect of this might be that he rang up his mother as well, which at every retail job I've ever managed, is a big no-no. Might actually make it look like he intentionally tried to hide that he was letting his mom use the discount. This is all assumption, cause I dunno now the whole register systems at bestbuy work. If thats the case, well, another employee might have reported it. It would take a lot of time to pull register tapes and see what was bought throughout a day on every register unless a tipoff was made, and if thats how it worked out the manager is basically required to perform disciplinary in a non-biased manner.
