Best Buy...

It's kind of ironic that nothing you buy from Best Buy is ever the "best buy" or even close, isn't it?

I was in there today to return a USB flash card reader when I decided to take a look around and see if I might be able to exchange it for something reasonably priced. Heh, the prices there were so awful I just had to laugh at the poor people walking around in awe like paying $50 for a Sandisk 512 miniSD card or $100+ for a 1 gig PNY thumb drive is some kind of once in a lifetime landmark deal. They even had some dusty, dilapidated $80+ Dynex cases lounging around their computer section which looked like cheap Thermaltake ripoffs. Thermaltake is pretty notorious for ripoffs in the first place, but ripoffs of a ripoff...heh. If only BB's regular customers knew about a magical invention called the internet.

Although...thinking back on it, I was probably no better for purchasing that flash card reader in the first place.

Some people don't want the trouble of buying and returning over the internet and/or waiting for their mechandise. Deal with it. People other than you may find value in more than just price.

um...

i love it when someone tries to bash a B&M store and compare it to an Online storefront.

B&M's have the disadvantage of having MANY MANY MANY more employees, an actual store front (or numerous ones), and, the single most IMPORTANT thing.

SPEED, if you need a stick of 512mb ram today, you cant go and buy it online and pay a reasonable amount, and have it delievered today, no, you have to pay $60 or so, for same day, and that completely F's up your price.

BB is not that bad, yes, they have bad service, and bad customer support, and higher prices, but if you are willing to pay for the item, then pay for the damn item.

Good post and QFT.

Eh, you can't get cheap computer hardware anywhere but the web. But I've done very well buying appliances at bestbuy, and the service has been second to none.

I don't mind going to B&M stores as long as they don't try to obscenely gouge you. Before the PC Club around here closed up shop, for example, I used to go there and buy stuff all the time since it is nice to have a store right there. The guys there would even pricematch with Newegg...it's a shame they seem to be maintaining a presence exclusively on the west coast now.

I got my DVD player from Best Buy, and it was $5~10 more than ordering online, but I also had the convenience of trying several different models of DVD player before I found the one I liked best. I also got the pleasure of laughing at the sales guy when he tried to sell me video cables that cost more than the player.

Sometimes people pay more for convenience.

fry's ftw!

better than any other b&m for electronic crap, often better than teh intarweb for hard drives, and usually cheap enough that paying a little extra so that you don't have to deal with various restocking fees and losing your shipping money is worthwhile (ZZF's return policy can bite my ass)

unfortunately you have to deal with the people who work at frys. that's almost a deal killer for me.

Those people that pay over normal price now are the ones financing you when black friday comes out and you wake up at 2am to get to the store and wait in line to save $30 later.

Do your research and don't pay more than what a product is worth. And never buy accessories from a B&M store. Go there for the hot deals, order online and wait 3 days for everything else.
