Best Buy Vs Walmart.. who will be the Electronics leader ?

Hey Everybody,

I was just reading Forbes magazine in which Best Buy is company of the year.

Best Buy owns 16% of the electronics and packaged media market whereas Walmart owns 11%.

Although Best Buy has greater share, Walmart is gaining market share faster just because it is opening more stores than Best Buy. (Walmart's share jumped from 6.9% in 1996 to 11% today)

Very interesting i thought.

What are your thoughts on the eventual winner ?

Walmart is know for selling cheap junk. They don't specialize in electronics. I would bet BB (or similar) will always be the leader because they actually know what they are talking about, they can fix the stuff, they have the extra warranties and such, etc.

But, I don't really like them so if the same product was sold at both places and it was cheaper at WalMart, then that's where I'd be...

As Wal-Mart expands it's stores it will also expand on it's product lines. Wal-Mart already has so many 'agreements' with many maufacturers dictating prices and versions, etc.

I cannot think of a manufacturer that would turn down the opportunity to reach Wal-Marts customer base.

🙂

Wal-Mart. Simply because they market themselves to the masses and the masses are idiots. They think a $30 dollar dvd player is a good deal

Not that BB is much better but still...

Wal-mart need to be stopped.
Pretty soon they will have a super center where you can get everything...and I mean everything.
They are going to monopolize the retail industry much like Microsoft in computer.

Although I'm far from a Wal-Mart fan, if the player plays DVD's then I don't see why it's not a good deal. These people obviosly aren't extremely worried about quality and features, they just want to watch a movie. Thus, a $30 DVD player is a much better deal to them than a $100 player with features that they don't really need/care about.

True. As long as the $30 dollar one doesn't break a month later.

sadly I'm sure walmart will overtake best buy... but it's like going from one evil to another. But that's only for the idiots... if I need something, I know I can get it cheaper online anyways.

Our Walmart is a laugh. Sloppily run and empty shelves. I have tried many times to gripe to the manager but of course, he's never available.

I still shop there but I have a love/hate relationship for the place.

It's my understanding that my Walmart is far worse than the normal one.

I won three of them and they rock 😀

There is NO REASON to buy a 200 dollar DVD Player to plug into a 250 dollar TV.

The first Apex we bought replaced a pioneer that had died after just over a year. That one cost me 150 bucks. I saw no Difference in the quality of picture or sound. I have since purchased 2 more (one for each TV) and have zero complaints. The newest one even plays mpg movies 😉

If only Frys would spread around like best buy they would be on top.

Having spent a great deal off money at the fry's in San Diego I do miss it. Yet when I go back to San Diego I alway make a fry's run and I remember why I hated that store. I am unsure if the headaches are worth the savings.

doesnt walmart mostly sell full screen dvds and non-explicit (clean version) cds?

and i noticed in the digital camera section, they are missing like half the products normally found at bestbuy. no prosumer cameras such as a Sony V1, F717, not even the full P-line up of the Sony series such as the P8 and P10. they do carry ones such as P72 and P92.

even quality speakers cant be found at walmart and computer parts are sparse in brand choice
