Just bought a Toshiba Laptop for 999.99 - 250MIR - 150MIR. This is availible instore only. BB started their Memorial Day Sale early to match CCs deal on this lappy. I also recieved $40 in GCs using BBs rewards program.

I should mention that the CPU is not a Mobile Celeron as claimed, but a Desktop Celeron, still not bad for 600 duckets

Yup, it's a Desktop Cpu alright. How does yours run Slacker? I haven't even opened mine, it's a Graduation gift for my son.

No surprises so far, it needs more memory though.

I have been playing Q3 online for an hour or so and it handles it fine, ran 3dmark2001se and got 1700

The screen is big and plenty bright enought, sound is decent.

Havent tried the cdrw yet, I am going to load dvdshrink and vcdeasy and try making a vcd on it later.

Sisoft sandra should give you an idea :) - I bet the regular P4 is quite a bit faster in real life too

Too bad it doesn't have a better display.

15" TFT active-matrix display with 1024 x 768 resolution.

This is the typical "XGA" notebook display found on notebooks costing twice as much, and 15" is certainly better than the 12" ~ 14" that comprise a substantial percentage of the market.

For $600.00, there is nothing about this notebook worthy of lament. If anything, the Intel Extreme Graphics is the weakness here.

You don't need much in the graphics dept for a display like that. I'd take the $600 and put it towards something that I felt had a "useable" display. No sense in settling for something that doesn't completely satisfy just because of the cost or lack thereof.

Edit: Not to mention the additional $400 of MIR (as the original post shows) that you still pay taxes on.

"Useable" for what? DVD movies? Is this screen "unuseable" because you prefer a Widescreen?

If that is the case, guess what? You do not need anything more than Intel Extreme Graphics to drive quality DVD/MPEG decoding on WXGA, either, albiet with higher CPU utilization.

If gaming is what you prefer, then the screen is 100% irrelevant. Its the GPU that is critical in gaming, whether it is driving XGA or WXGA. WXGA is also 15" in sub-$1500 notebooks. Its a little senseless to compare apples to oranges. You're not going to find WXGA larger than 15.4" for less than $1500, which is $500 more than the regular price on this notebook.

Particularly California's ridiculous sales tax rate.

I just purchased the Toshiba Laptop for $899.99 - 150MIR - 100MIR = $649.99 from Best Buy. This deal is currently on their Website. My question is when I go to pick this up can I still price match to the CC deal?

Any opinions?

Thanks,

Circuit City laptop deal is on a HP Pavilion, not a Toshiba.

My mistake. I'm getting so confused over all these deals. I meant the previous Toshiba Laptop deal that was the subject of this thread. Basically can when I go to Best Buy to pick this up what can I say to get the 999.99 - 250MIR - 150MIR or bascally the $599.99 price.

Thanks,

I bought a laptop from BB last year on a similar deal ($250 in rebates plus a $100 GC) - all of the BB rebates came within a month (the $50 from Toshiba took the longest - about two months)

I don't think you'll have a problem if you arranged local pick-up. Just print the pick-up ticket for your item, find the Pick Up counter (usually at the Computer Service Counter), and mention the deal to the clerk. If she says you can't get the in-store promotion because you purchased it online (which I don't think will happen), cancel the online sale then buy it again in the store.

Slacker, does it look easy enough to add internal wifi to this unit? It has an empty minipci slot inside?
