Not an issue for me since I don't shop at BB any more. Amazon FTW even with tax.

While once good Best Buy has devolved into complete suckage so this makes perfect sense and is right in line with their thinking of late. A sinking ship is still a sinking ship even if it is slow to go under.

This was expected. You will also see their sale items being old stock and, just not great prices for the next 6 months. Why you ask? Due to the overwhelming $150 and $200 gift cards that Time Warner Cable have been giving out to each new cable subscriber, Best Buy, who sold these cards to Time Warner for $50 and $75 each need to recoop profit and raise their prices. Their stores is already being hit with these Time Warner gift cards and people will be purchasing things just to get rid of these gift cards. My suggestion: If you have a Time Warner gift card, spend it on a same item. If you don't have a Time Warner gift card, you can get a better sale price pretty much anywhere else.

+1, only time i go there anymore is when i want to look at something in person before i buy it on amazon. this might be the final nail in the coffin to them going out of business. somebody should make a death watch thread for them or turn this thread into that

I don't expect anyone to care, but I haven't been in a Best Buy since about 1994. I think the best thing to do with a Best Buy gift card is give it to someone you hate, or at least dislike!

Additionally, multiple sources are saying that Best Buy will also be dropping its post-purchase price-matching policy on March 3

Interesting, as this seems to already be in effect. I bought a Lenovo Tablet on Thursday, took it home and was doing some post-purchase research. I found the same tablet listed on Newegg, Amazon, and Office Depot for $70 less. I went back to the store on Friday (yesterday) to get the price match. At first the kid handling the transaction said it was no problem, and mentioned that he did not have enough cash in the drawer to cover the refund. So he got a manager to do a cash transfer to his register. The manager came over and took my receipt and paperwork and promptly went to her office. She returns 10 minutes later and tells the kid to tell me that they couldn't do the price match because the matched price for the tablet was less than their cost. WTF ever! I told them no problem, you can just give me all the money back then, and I went to my car and returned with the tablet unopened. Thankfully there is an Office Depot not too far from the BB, and I was able to purchase the same tablet at the discounted price. Will never shop at BB again.

1. Determine need
2. Buy

If you do it that way instead of the other way around, you don't have to return stuff.

To be honest, I've just been waiting for Best Buy to die a horrible death. It's just a matter of time. I feel bad for some of the people who will lose their jobs, but even the arrogance of some BB employees doesn't make you feel *that* bad. They need to get up to speed or get lost. This thing has been dragging on for like a good 5 yrs.

I would have opened it before I returned it. They want to dick people around and say that perfectly legit price matches aren't valid, they can deal with an open box return.
Had that happen at staples with an ipad at Xmas. Bought it on the 24th, 27th it went on sale at staples for $70 off. They wouldn't price adjust, they didn't have any other 64gb models so I opened it in front of them and then refunded it and went to bestbuy and bought one for the same price staples had.

I don't even see the point of B&M locations anymore. It's great when you need something ASAP, but for 99% of my purchases, waiting 2 days for a delivery will suffice. And I don't even need to get dressed :awe:.

The shipping kills Amazon unless you have $25 in qualified stuff. I have to save up a few items to buy when I use Amazon sometimes.

Oh give me a break. There's no reason for them to sell it for below cost. They'd be losing money on the sale. I can't believe you don't understand why they declined the price match.

Prime rules. The Instant video service is worth the costs annually, by itself. Throw in 2 day shipping on any prime qualified product (often used too) and it is a seriously great value.

We have been having these threads for a few years now. It has taken time, but sloooowly, the "I love me some Best Buy" crowd has exited the conversation. At least for the most part. They need to transition to the small stores, with the 10 percent profitable sellers ASAP. I suppose going private into the deal, might make sense too.

One good thing about being here at AT for so long:
I can instantly recognize one of your posts by the writing style and know instinctively that it's not worth trying to read and to skip right on by it.

I buy by price and convenience. If best buy has it cheaper or even a little more expensive, there's one within walking distance.

But, I research and know exactly what I want before I buy. And I have gone down to best buy to touch/operate an item and then bought it elsewhere. But I don't ask the sales people for help.

I am buying a 65" plasma as soon as the new models come out. If best buy will price match then (they still do now) I'll buy it at best buy.

It was well advertised that stores would not price match boxing day sales. You were just being a dickhead.

For those who don't know, stores are closed on the 26 Dec and only open on the 27 and that's when the boxing day sale is on here in Canada.

I'm not sure I buy this. How many Time Warner gift cards do you think were handed out? (curious, not facetious)

Time Warner Cable only has about 14 million subscribers. Let's say that they got a million new subscribers due to that deal. At $100 per loss on the card, Best Buy is looking at $100M in lost revenue - well, not actually revenue, but Deferred Revenue. In any case, Best Buy does $50 Billion in sales annually and has operating profit of over $1B annually. So, a 100 million in revenue only equates to about $2M in operating income. Less than a tenth of a penny in EPS, I believe.
