Best Buy tests used video game sales

Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, creators of the "Unreal" franchise as well as the upcoming Xbox 360 game "Gears of War," has vociferously argued against retail sales of used games in the past. The expansion of a major retailer into the field, he said, is disheartening.

"We pay to be in Best Buy's flyers," he said. "We pay market development funds. Publishers drive gaming traffic to these stores. To have them resell the games, with developers having no participation, that's just wrong. That's just fleecing us."

Something can't be considered used until someone has previously purchased it. I don't see what the problem is.

yea did you NOT read the article? they discuss it in there, saying the used game market is left to the smaller chains.

i agree with the article. i don't think BB should be selling used games, simply because I already do not like the store

I read the OP. If BB is charging companies to be placed in the flyer and such, no they shouldn't be selling used games. Not to mention it takes away from the asthetics of a store. Why would you want used stuff in your "nice" store?

Even if they do, their prices will probably be higher than the smaller stores and Blockbuster.

What no one seems to know is that BB is in its "fat-trimming" phase right now. They're testing ALL kinds of new stuff to increase profit, reduce cost, and improve the bottom line. If a bean counter sees something that may improve the bottom line, even a tiny bit, they're going to test it and if it works they will implement the sh!t. A couple years ago, I would have suggested many ppl to shop @ BBY. I would have recommended a number of their products AND services. Not anymore. FVCK THEM

yeah i read the article. how many eb and gamestops are there? i bet there are more of those in this city than BBs.

The article brings up an interesting point. You can sell used video games, but what would M$ do if Best Buy tried to sell used copies of Windows? I guess software is protected because they "license" the product to you.

The BB by me is one of the few testing this, interesting idea. When I heard they were going to have used games I didn't care. But, when I saw it finallyin oeration, and was able to buy a Genesis game I have been really looking for. I was thrilled.

well the thing against reselling windows is that you could so easily install and resell your liscence. everyone would do it. well..many...

games were different because they were on cartridges or disc media that couldn't be easily copied, so selling your used copy ment you were giving it up. pc games arent quite as secure as consoles(yea yea i know even thats sorta broke) because of the wide avaliability of no cd cracks and such. and really how would you know the seller wouldn't use that cd key online after selling the game? it does open the door to a bit of shadiness and potentially angry customers when they try to log on and find out their cd key is still in use by someone else.

If they sell them for a good price who am I to complain. Well, there is the whole fact that I don't really like BB...
