I think service plans are a scam. But it seems like people here have had good experiences with them. I guess theyre worth it if its an expensive item or it breaks easily.

Trust me, I used to work there. Dont buy them if you want, but I encouraged my friends to buy them even on $400 eMachines. The reason being was that they would be instantly replaced since we didn't work on them. I had a friend go through 3 of them in 3 years, got a new one each time, and each time it was faster and better.

I buy them on a lot of things because I know how good they can be. Your stupid if you don't buy the PRP (the less expensive one) on things like a PS2 or Xbox or PSP. I've seen 100's of them replaced without any questions at all.

That whole get 3 new emachines in 3 years thing won't work anymore. About 2 years ago they change it so that once you use your PSP or PRP, it's done, if you want the replacement to be covered, you need to buy a new one (if it's outside the manufacturer's warranty). Seems like a rip off to me. If you buy a 4 years service plan on a tv, and breaks in 1 year (day after manufacturer's warranty ends), you essentially have a 1 year warranty, not 4, because you'll need to buy another 4 year service plan if you want the replacement to be covered.
