Always ask to open the openbox items before you leave. Even though they had a process (at least when I was there 15 years ago) you wouldn't believe the number of computers that came back missing cpus, ram, HDDs etc. My favorite was the brand new top of the line Sony Vaio that when powered on booted up with a huge Compaq logo. Someone had swapped the guts. Card board "TV's with bricks." Factory GM car stereos in boxes etc. Basically even thought the front desk was supposed to have service sign off on things they typically didn't.

I did open it, to verify everything was there. The AVR was wrapped in that anti-static foam paper stuff. I didn't take it out of the box and unwrap it; I ass-umed it was simply un-used. The accessory bag was even still sealed.

Edit: Funny thing, I saw the exact model somebody returned being sold at Wal-Mart. Other than the stickers, the AVR looked brand new. My guess is, since the AVRs look pretty much exactly the same on the outside, somebody bought the older model from WM and then the newer model from BBuy and swapped them. The older model is $199 at WM and that's pretty much what I paid for the open box at BBuy!

Best Buy returns are generally very unpleasant. They don't trust you, so they go inside the box to inspect every little tiny thing to make sure you are not lying about condition. Makes me feel like I am being frisked or something...

They push you to exchange rather than return, and look at you like they will kill you if you insist on a return/refund. If you keep insisting on a return, they keep insisting on an exchange.
