Best Buy rant - Video card

This occured in the Riverside, CA store off Day St, but anyways....

I walk into store, head to computers like usual. I stop by video cards. I see a stack of 20 Radeon 7500 All In Wonder for $129.99. I say "nice price, gotta confirm this." I ask a friendly sales associate, and she confirmed the price at $129.99+tax. So, I pick up one, and head to the checkout. Then it gets messy from here...

"Hello Sir, Thank you for choosing Best Buy" - Sales due
".........." -me
"$199.99" - Sales guy
"WTF!" as my jaw hits the counter ... "I saw it for 129.99 and had it confirmed, with acutally, that lady right there. Go ask her herself"
"Umm, I need to call my manager...."

I wait around for 10 minutes, and my friend decides to wander the store some more. Pretty fun to edit things on the floor model computers anyways... He wanders over to the video card land, and sees best buy associates and the manager removing inventory and the price tag off the shelf. As if they were trying to hide it... suspicous. A few minutes later, a new tag, and a bunch of normal Radeon 7500's.

Im still at the checkout, nothing happening, line growing. The manager comes over and says "I dont know where you got this, this isn't even for sale yet. We can go over and check if you like"

So, quick trip to the video card land, and again, my jaw falls to ground as I didn't see any more Radeon 7500 AIW's. Errr, wtf I think. Then my friend wanders over and says "Why'd you guys take those cards away in such a rush, along with the tag?"

Ok, once I heard that, let the dogs of war out. Thats it, manager tried to trick me....har har. So, away I went, blabbing on how they are liable for putting out the right product and sales tag on the shelf. Manager kept his story, said, wrong product.... I could care less, I would have left peacefully, but since they pulled those cards off the shelf and the price card, and replaced it, I was going for the win.

What I didnt understand was how they didn't notice this all day. I was there at around 930pm, near closing. They had all day, all night to stock the shelf properly and get proper price tag, but oh well...

After 30 minutes of negoiations, I got the card for $129.99, and was told not to come back to the store again....oh well
No I will not scan the sales invoice, this is a one time luck only. Yes, I know this was childish. But, somehow, I felt ripped off on the $130 gf4 ti4600 deal, needed some retribution. Best buy will work with you once you prove yourself well, or back up the line of the store, near closing.

Way to go man! It isn't your fault that they screwed up......nothin wrong with taking advantage of it.

If it was me I would make a call to their corporate offices about not allowing you to come into the store again, and trying to trick you.

Is BB even allowed to tell you whether you can come back or not just because of their errors? I'd walk back into the store after I bought the card. That'll show them :D

WTF?

Hello Better Business Bureau! I would definitely report these guys. If your friend wasn't around to corroborate the fact that they were mispriced, the manager would have likely refused the sale.

Just wait 2 weeks and then you can go back.

There will be all new employees and a new manager by then.:)

I don't see why you Americans keep shopping there.... good thing we don't have Best Buy's here in Canada. Future Shop is similar but customer support isn't as bad :)

Any Merchant can refuse service to anyone for any reason. You do not own the store you are a invited guest.

Yes, but I doubt that a major retailer would want it known that it bans all customers that ferret out the frauds that their managers are committing.

I do not understand the "Don't come back" statement. Best Buy requires volume sales to make enough money to run like they do. It would seem to me that the corporate offices would not like this attitude. If you were rude or offensive it would make since but otherwise it is counterproductive to the goal (Large Customer Volume). If you are going to cave and give the customer the lower price it would seem to make more sense to creat "goodwill" rather than alienate a customer.

my 2 cents.

If they did, BestBuy wouldn't have any customers.

I hate to disappoint you but Future Shop is owned by Best Buy and it will be renamed and managed by them later this year.

BBB? Nah ...........

Drop a note to best buy corperate, I'm sure they would love to here this.

They do have the right to ask you never to come again, BUT I am guessing that corperate may see this differently.

I bought my Dinosaur DVD (spec 2 disc) for 19.99 because they had put it on the wrong shelf. The manager tried to say i had moved 20 some discs into that dysplay. I told him he LEGALLY had to sell me it. He also informed my not to come back.

I called corperate BB in Eden Prarie, MN and talked to a customer rep Manager. They apologized and told me I was welcome to come back whenever I wanted!:D

Overall the service at Best Buy Is subpar at best BUT they do have good prices and selection.

The key is to think like the management.

I have had occasions where I was being toyed with by Future Shop. Stand your ground and be calm but insist that you know what you are talking about. I always double check a good price. Since I am well aquainted with the manager of the Electronics/Computer dept. there, I rarely have problems with prices.

Thats one thing I can recommend: become friends with those in a position to help you if there is a dispute.

How would they know if you did try to come back? I think it's kind of far-fetched that they would have something in their system that when you try to pay, it pops up saying "Do not sell to this customer."

Corporate doesn't care. They don't take any complaints seriously. Their reasoning: "If you complain, then you are not welcome as a customer."

Normal rules of customer service doesn't apply to Beast Buy.
