great price on the s100. im an open box/display model hunter and bestbuy usually sucks for this. Their first drop is 10% off and they wont drop it again unless it was in inventory forever. But bestbuy is shopped so much that an idiot will come by and buy it before it gets a chance to go any lower. Argh. Id kill for that price...

The Best Buys in SoCal recently changed how they display their Digital Cameras. No more display cases. Now they have them out where you can 'touch' them, which is a nice idea, except they have no place to display the open box items. You now have to ask them (they keep them hidden under the counter) which makes it a pain to breeze by and look yourself. :(

They did the same thing with their PDA's as well.

Be very careful about buying open box items from Best Buy because they don't inspect them very closely for damage or missing accessories, and if you find something wrong after the purchase, Best Buy may try to blame you for those deficiencies. I've found that Best Buy does not have the highest standards for integrity or customer service, and in one instance they were so bad that another customer complained to them about my treatment.

the cheapest place i could find online was pcmall for some 40 with next day shipping.. i orderd it at 10 in the nite and they had it at my door step at abt 9 the next day ..thats the fastest i ve seen any one shipping things.. i think both buy.com and amazon have this but have been out of stock for the last month..
note: even though it says that the battery adapter used is cb-2l on the box ..the newer model cb-2ls(comes with the s110) will work fine.

This sounds like a "hit or miss" deal with ymmv at your local store. I stopped at two BB's last Sunday. One didn't have any "clearanced" cams except for the ones advertised on display and the other had a few overpriced display models in a glass case away from the new "hands on" cam display aisle. For example, they wanted almost $400 for a bare Canon S-100.

Good luck,
...russ

IVE ONLY heard bad things about the s100. I'm getting an s110 today, i hear they fixed the battery problem in that one. The 100 apparently ran out of batteries (it died), ungodly quickly and pissed lotsa peopel off. But for that price, i'd just buy another battery, nice find :)

hey check target too ..i got my s100 on the clearance table at 220 - 10% off. most of them have replaced the s100 in their display case with the s110 . so most likely they ll have it sitting around in the shelf below.

got the elph s100 at my best buy for $260 with no battery. They had another, too. Borrowed a friend's battery and it works great. Got two batts on order with a case for about $80. So $340 with tax is great. Modesto was the store that still had one (as of Last Saturday.)

Regarding the battery life on the canon s100, it does suck the battery like crazy, i get maybe 30-35 shots per battery (albeit all the shots use the flash). Having bought the camera retail in the pricing fiasco at OD, all the options seem needlessly expensive, such as a new battery costing 20% the cost of the camera. However, anyone that uses the camera frequently will need to carry a spare battery, as the standard one tends to fade rather quickly. I've found turning off the LCD extends battery life greatly.

The battery life has never been a big problem to me.
I've shot 50-60 flash shots on a charge, with the lcd on.
Not great, but not terrible.
I do turn the camera off shortly after taking pics.
The lcd is what drains it the most.
I just made sure to buy a second battery.

Depends on which setting you use.
I assume you will use 1600x1200.

High quality low compression JPEG is 1.2 - 1.6MB per picture average.
Low quality more compression JPEG is about 5-800KB depending on the subject.
So you can do the math.

I have found if you are using flash that it is rarely necessary to use the HQ setting.
If you are using normal light the HQ setting can be noticably better, but some subjects you will never tell.
