My laptop developed some dirt inside the plastic coating for the screen and the wireless quit working. When I purhased the HP laptop in September I got the accidental and blah blah blah service plan.

The laptop is still under manufacturers warranty. I have reason to believe the wireless issue is the result of a potentially bad motherboard. If they decide that between the two problems I have that its not worth fixing and they want to junk it out.

Will they consider my service plan fulfilled? If so , that would seem like a big waste of money on the extended warranty since the laptop is still under the manufacturers warranty.

I wish I was smart enough to have gotten the accidental. Dropped a coffee cup on my LCD screen, and going to pick up the replacement LCD display today. Cost a little less than the warranty, but still :(

I don't normally purchase warranties. But, I figured since I'd be dragging the laptop to class everyday and throwing it in the same bag as my hefty textbooks that theyre would be a good chance of killing that screen :)

But, I tore a few laptops apart and put them back together before. I decided I would never want to work on one again. So, the warranty was for peace of mind of never having to mess w/ a laptop again.

Yeah I wish I had thought of it, I was all "pfft, I know about computers don't need no warranty" type cocky..

sigh :(

AFAIK The warrant still continues or it did on my xbo360 which I had to bring in a few times. (Though that is not a computer)

Well, I know the warranty still works if they fix and return my laptop. But, I'm half afraid they won't want to replace the motherboard and do whatever work they have to do to fix the screen. I imagine it would need a new screen since I don't imagine the panel and the glossy cover part are different parts. (But, I have been wrong many times before)

If that happens I imagine I pick out a new laptop and who knows what happens to the extended warranty from that point.

If the laptop is still underneath manufactures warranty then your plan is not considered "fulfilled".

However, to get a new "manufactures warranty" on your new laptop (under which, if Best Buy elects, will replace a unit an unlimited # of times) you can return the prorated remaining portion of your warranty (probably like 80%) and purchase a new one on the new laptop, starting your 2 or 3 years from that day and once again, "renewing" your manufactures warranty.

Most likely, but you may want to read up in that brochure they give you as to what constitutes "accidental". It may not cover as much as you think. When I worked there (a while back) there was still some confusion about this. Chances are they just ship it to their service center, and then they decide to either a) Send it to mfg, b) Fix it themselves, or c) BLAME YOU and say that it was "abuse" and not covered. If you want to expedite things, you should perform sacrifice to the gods of computer repair that it returns from the limbo/purgatory that you just sent your machine into...

So would dropping a coffee cup into a laptop screen that cracked the screen be accident or abuse?

Xalos, what model of HP was it? Is it one of those with the nVidia chipset where the wireless just quits? HP extended the warranties on those for an extra year on that particular issue - all they do is replace the HD. There's plenty of info about it online, they even have a dedicated support number for that issue alone.

Depends on 1) How the store's "numbers" are, i.e. how much scrutiny from the higher-ups their dept. has (I have seen complaints that our dept. did send too many laptops like that to the service center - stuff we couldn't do ourselves anyway due to equipment/parts/time) or 2) How generous the techs at the service center are that particular day.

It isn't about the customer, but the bottom line. GS turned into a sales force more than anything. Can you tell I'm bitter from seeing the other side of things there? ;)
