Played with one myself on Sunday I did.

They had it right next to the 30D. It was nice to be able to compare them both side by side. I don't think its officially out until the 20th, but the Best Buy by me on Hall Road, north of Detroit had it in store :)

What's with all the A-holes threadcrapping?

40D will probably be my next upgrade. Some idiots might not understand that a majority of people have a signifigant amount of money already invested into high quality or L glass for our Canons.

Can't wait to see and play with one! I'll have to check to see if BB has it in my area when we head out in a little bit.

Boo hoo hoo hoo.

I apologise that we're not all one-eyed, half-witted Canon fanboys in here ;)

I can't see what's wrong with offering a different suggestion and poking some fun at the whole thing, but then I understand this is a deadly serious business, and any joking around could get me killed...or something...

If I had thousands and thousands of 'signifigant' dollars of 'L' glass, I'd be aiming a little higher than a 40D, however ;)

I'm a Canon fanboy? I just got my first DSLR several weeks ago. You may be surprised at what I got? Not to mention I own only Sony HDV and DV Cams. But not a Sony DSLR! Wow, I bet I just blew your head.

May I just don't like people who try to mask their comments with smiley faces while thread crapping. This thread wasn't asking for suggestions. He's letting people know a place you can go look at them.

Additionally, I don't think I said thousands and thousands of dollars in L glass. Some people have a budget and may have 1-2 good lenses and it'd be retarded to dump money into a whole new system. Not to mention accessories (i.e. grip and flashes) and other things.

Stick a smiley in my post if it makes you feel better?

i took a look at it at best buy. it's a pretty chunky camera. big and hefty. notably bigger than the D80 it was sitting near.

viewfinder appears a little smaller than a D80 viewfinder, which i find a little disappointing (it's due to the canon sensor being smaller, 95% coverage plus 95% magnification will be smaller on canon than nikon). looking at a table it appears to have split the difference between the D80 and the 30D.

i guess for 40% more expense you should be getting a more feature-rich camera.

He posted a thread about where you could buy the 40D, I asked a question, in something other than a serious frame of mind, and with a degree of interest in people's response to the comparison the question posed.

Last time i checked, I was quite free to ask a question, express some humour, and encourage debate in ANY thread I wanted, and guess what? People do it all the time in this forum, and in every other forum on here.

Yes, having invested in Canon lenses is an entirely valid reason why you'd be interested in the 40D. Perhaps you could have phrased that as a civil response to my question, rather than flying off the handle?

EDIT: I have no idea why I've been such a dick about this, edited to remove the more inflammatory parts  My apologies

I'm confused. Were you:

A. Offering a suggestion?
B. Asking a question?
C. Thread Crapping?

People do it all the time, but there's such a thing as thread crapping. His post didn't say anything about Nikon or ask for suggestions. It was mearly telling someone where you could check one out at.

FYI: You were the only fanboy to post about Nikon in this thread. You just act like I singled you out.

Admit, you just really want the Sony flagship model! I realize that the closest you can get right now is the D300 with its Sony sensor, but the flagship will likely come out around PMA. ;)

People are too serious about their cameras.

I am buying this in the next few months. And unless, BB has an amazing deal, I'm going to support the local camera shop by purchasing it though them.

I'd say a mixture of A and B. If you feel that's threadcrapping, more power to you.

There's only so long that someone can discuss the availability of the 40D at best buy, after all. Arguing about the the appropriate/inappropriate nature of my post has certainly offered one solution ;)

(I know you hate emoticons, but I think that one was warranted )

Could you two just hug and make up already??! Thanks. -DrPizza

Unfortunately I have to support the internet. For me to buy it in a local store I would have to fork over $140 in taxes.

the 40% more expensive camera i was referring to was dug's D300. the 40D is a whopping 59% more than the D80 on buydig (though as 40D prices come down that'll narrow, additionally regular retail is selling the D80 for $1000, so the 40D is only 30% more when comparing retail to retail).

haven't been paying much attention to D80 v. 40D as so much focus has been on the D300 v. 40D. though they are pretty similar cameras.

I have a 30D and personally I'd skip the 40D and go straight to the 5D if I were considering upgrading. Or better yet the 1D MKIII! :p

Oh, and B&H Photo is a great place to buy camera gear online. I've purchased thousands of dollars of photography gear from them over the years and I highly recommend them.

Boy, people sure seem to have gotten their panties in a twist over this thread. The original intent was just to let people know that they could go look at the camera in a Best Buy before the official launch date, and be able to compare them side by side with a 30D.
