Really? I'd like an iPad, but for the same cash, I can buy a decent laptop, no? So much more can be done with the laptop.

I'd much rather have a laptop and physical keyboard vs virtual touchscreen keyboard. iPads are supposed to be pretty nice, but I tend to think the same way, a laptop can do so much more. But the iPad (and tablets in general now that Apple released one) is cool and new and hip.

There are a lot of people who assume they can get the same exact experience on an iPad that they can on a laptop or netbook. When they find out they can't the iPad becomes a novelty. I've had quite a few people I know ask me if they should buy an iPad instead of Macbook Pro thinking it was the same thing except touch screen.

Not stupid... they are different things. I have a couple of desktops, a laptop, an iPod touch.

And I could see many many times where I would love to use an iPad over any of the other options.

See what I don't understand is why anyone would want an iPad when you can get the same exact experience for cheaper and it fits in your pocket. What the fuck people?

My friend let me borrow his iPad for a week, i hated it, will stick with a macbook, things i found it cant do...
1. No Camera, that’s right, you can’t take pics and e-mail them.
2. No Web Cam, that’s right, no iChat or Skype Video chatting.
3. No Flash, that’s right, you can’t watch NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX or HULU.
4. No External Ports, such as Volume, Mic, DVI, USB, Firewire, SD card or HDMI
5. No Multitasking, which means only one App can be running at a time. Think iPhone = Failure.
6. No Software installs except Apps. Again think iPhone = Failure.
7. No SMS, MMS or Phone.
8. Only supports iTunes movies, music and Books, meaning Money, Money, Money for Apple.
9. WAY, WAY, WAY over priced.
10. They will Accessorize you to death if you want to do anything at all with it and you can bet these Accessories will cost $29.99 for each of them.
11. No Full GPS
12. No Native Widescreen
13. No 1080P Playback
14. No File Management

ActiveX, how did you feel the weight was? I've held one and fiddled with it, less than 5 minutes, and it didn't really bother me. A friend of mine on the other hand got to use one for about a week and said it was way to heavy to use for long amounts of time. He said he couldn't stand holding it up and reading it like he could his kindle because he could start to feel the weight on his wrists.

Apple fanboys think iPads are the first tablets ever made.

It's really stupid comments like this that make you look just as bad. No one is saying that it was the first. Name me a tablet that has sold millions and has single handily gotten the tablet market off life support.

It's really funny when people were calling it a giant iPod of a failure. Millions of ipads sold later people still refuse to accept it's success. Give credit where it's due. Fanboys can be a two way street.

Guys, relax. Wait until iPad 2 comes out and renders this generation obsoleet by adding two software features. Then we get to laugh at the fanbois.

I felt it was too clumsy, like trying to hold a big magazine under your arm, it needs a docking station or kickstand of some sort. Rumor and its just rumor, that google tablet will be out soon and do all the things the iPad cant.

The problem with the iPad is it's not really a tablet. It's a tablet sized PMP.

I think the problem is that people want a desktop os on a tablet. Sorry that's not gonna happen.

a big part of the iPad experience is the 10" screen, you cannot get that experience on a device that fits in your pocket. I own an iPod Touch which is pretty much a iPad Mini, my step mom has an iPad. The experience is vastly different. I'm not saying it's better, but for you to act like it's exactly the same as using a Touch or iPhone is pretty ridiculous.

Get one of each, lay on a couch and watch the same movie on both, then come back and say the experience is exactly the same.

Easily added with a quick hack.

And my Android phone will only install... Android apps, does that mean Android = Failure?

7. No SMS, MMS or Phone.
My Laptop has none of those features either, damn neither does my full blown desktop, but you know what does? My PHONE, imagine that...

8. Only supports iTunes movies, music and Books, meaning Money, Money, Money for Apple.
You mean movies in the mp4 format? Which I can encode with a million different programs? Oddly enough that's the only video format my Android phone plays without 3rd party software. You could put 64 gigs of your own music and movies on an iPad and Apple wouldn't make a dime. Are you upset they offer a service for people who want to buy movies & music from them? Since I can load my own, I don't see how you can possibly say "only supports iTunes" that's false. But please tell me about your pad which I can legally get movies and music for free.
9. WAY, WAY, WAY over priced.
Motorola's Tablet will be a few hundred bucks and require a CONTRACT with Verizon. I believe Samsungs will be more expensive. The Moto one with the mandatory contract will end up costing a shit ton more. My neighbor has a Samsung XP tablet, I know it has a full blown OS on it, but it's slower than shit, the screen sucks ass big time, and get this he paid about $1,500 for it.

10. They will Accessorize you to death if you want to do anything at all with it and you can bet these Accessories will cost $29.99 for each of them.

You don't have to buy shit, out of the box it works 100%. What company doesn't try to get you to buy expensive accessories? I'll tell you, all of them try. DAMN APPLE for offering accessories some people might want. FYI Microsoft accessories for my Zune HD were more expensive than Apple accessories for my iPod...

It isn't a two way street. I'm not a fanboy of anything. Millions of people buy a lot of worthless pieces of junk, doesn't mean any of it is an actual quality product. I guess we should all be on AOL because millions of people can't be wrong, right? Or is people buying something better not ok?

I'd rather have a desktop. And a tablet. And an iPad. And a Mac. And a kindle. And a smartphone. And a calculator. And a slide rule.

So I'd appreciate it if you all would stop acting like it's one or the other.

No one claimed Apple was the first at anything and that has never been the point. iPod,not first, iPhone, not first.

AOL doesn't have alot of users. The iPad is a success thus far and has gotten others to join the bandwagon, that is saying something. Where are the competitors? It's been vaportrash lately. We have to wait almost a year later for an alternative. I can't agree with peoples statement about the iPad sucking when there aren't any tablets around. There was the joojoo but we all know how that turned out.

It happened years ago. Take off your Apple goggles.

Oh did it? I didn't know /s

Where are those tablets today? Oh yea in a coffin.

A full os in a tablet isn't gonna happen anytime soon because there isn't an SOC powerful enough nor a touch ui to support it.

Get one of each, lay on a couch and watch the same movie on both, then come back and say the experience is exactly the same.

Why would I lay on the couch and watch a movie on an iTouch or an iPad? I would watch it on my TV. Why would I lay in bed and watch a movie on my iTouch or iPad when I could watch it on my TV? Why would I want to watch a movie on the iPad when I can get a higher resolution screen on a laptop with more functionality? You're not making an argument for the iPad.

I realize it's a different experience, it's fucking bigger. What I'm saying is the iPad is the iTouch XXL. They went all Nintendo on us for no reason. Why would I pay MORE for a bigger version of something I can put in my pocket that doesn't replace anything I already own or can purchase at a similar price with more functionality? I read a review where the reviewer was amazed at how Apple designed a product that "filled a void I didn't even know existed." Yeah, he let his love of something new and neat with an mostly complete apple on the back invent a void in his life style he didn't even know was there.

The iPad is almost a decent coffee table computer, but I believe it is lacking in a lot of areas and because it's from Apple I doubt they'll fix that. I realize expecting a full PC experience on a tablet is a ridiculous expectation and Apple did take a step in the right direction by going with a simplified OS for this style of device. That said the only place I could see a use in my life for the iPad would be on the shitter and even then I don't spend much time there and I would be afraid of getting shit all over my expensive fancy Apple iPad.
