just got off the phone with worst buy.

got a xbox360 from bestbuy.com, thought I got their protection plan. wasn't listed on the receipt so I decided to call them, worst move ever.

  • Got on the phone at 9:10 a.m. PST
  • Transferred to six different departments, repeating my First Name, Last Name, Phone number and confirming my emaill address. (transferred to India about four times mind you, where they had no clue what was going on)
  • 45 minutes later, some moron tells me that you can't purchase it over the phone since its an online order, you have to go into the store. (if i had purchased it in the store, I could buy it over the phone)

Best Buy is officially on the Sh!t List.

Why would you call them? Why? Why? Why?

Just go into any store, go up the service desk, and have your service plan added there....

I have been reading about alot of the 360's problems, so I wouldn't mind covering my bases for the next 3 years.

Because they actually do replace the item if it breaks?

Just because they pimp it like a $5 hooker doesn't mean all you get is a piece of paper. It's like insurance. I really, really wish I would have bought a protection plan on my PS2 because I'm sick of the damn disc read errors. It's not so bad now that I know how to fix it when it happens every other month, but it's not something I should have to do.

The bestbuy protection plan in general IS stupid, especially for typical consumers because they lose the sheet to provide proof you have the plan, but if you're a little bit more tech savvy and keep all the necessary papers, it shouldn't be too much of a scam..

been there done that crap. sent in my xbox because the 4th controller socket was kinda loose. i get a new one with a cracked case and when i hit the open button on the disk tray, it shaked and jerked in and out. sent it back, and i got one that looked like it went through a sandpaper factory, but it worked. I HATE HATE HATE Them. they should replace it with a new damned one that works.

I bought a laptop at BB about 4 1/2 years ago and 2 1/2 years into the plan, the laptop died, so I took it in. they said they could not get the part needed to fix it, so i can just pick out another laptop and get the ORIGINAL VALUE of the broken laptop as a credit. So basically I got to swap out a 2 1/2 year old lappy for a brand new one, free of charge. Of course I also got the plan for the new lappy and sound just quit working, so who knows, maybe I'll get another brand new one.

HeHe....

I avoid Best-Buy if at all possible, but when I do shop there I make it a point to ask the cashier and badger her about a product replacement plan.

Of course I'm buying junk like a ream of paper, Cat5 cable, bag of goobers, etc. I make it a point to keep a straight face and act like I'm from their corporate office. I get some pretty strange responses.

Best one I overheard was a few weeks ago when a guy in front of me was given the typical sales act to get those free copies of Sport's Illustrated by a rather cute cashier.

"Well, if I can get Hustler instead, and you won't tell my wife, we have a deal"

If you pay for it with a credit card, you don't need to keep that sheet of paper. They can look up the sale on the computer.
