Best Buisness Comp

My grandfather needs a buisness comp to run Peachtree '06 spread sheets and other accounting software. I'm trying to get a pre-built comp probably through Dell but open to suggestions for the warranty (so no custom PC's)

I know that buisness comps dont really require much, but I would like for it to be very capable for about 3-5 years atleast. Main requirements are a 19" monitor all in one printer and safe data storage. So far this is what I was thinking

Dell All In One Inkjet 924

I think the main diffrence is the dual core processor. is it worth it? are these comps way too over kill? There will be some very minor video editing. Any suggestions? the price is around 1600 or less Thanks for your time

These systems are really not targeted at the business computing needs. The average business gets either a D610 Latitude laptop or a 1100 Dimension.

For simply accounting work I would recommend the Dimension 1100
w/ P4 2.8GHz
XP PRO
1GB Ram
80GB HDD
DVD-ROM
(INTEL INTEGRATED GRAPHICS)

That should serve fine.

If video editing is going to be done, I would consider a workstation (Depending on usage)
Precession 670 or 470
Dual Xeon Processor
XP-64
4GB Ram (or more)
250GB HDD
Nvidia Quadro Video Card
DVD-RW

Dell has great technical support... others to consider are HP and IBM... but Dell is picked by most companies because of the great service and corporate discounts.

For more data security you can raid 0 your hdds and get a APC (or other) Battery Back-up

3-5 years is kinda a long time.. I'd plan on 3 and if you end up getting 5 out of it then that's cool but I wouldn't expect it. - as for the type/model, check out Dell's OptiPlex line. They're cheap and if configured appropriately will do pretty much all that your G-dad needs it to.

And MCE is for building a media center, not buisness use. Stick with XP pro in case the future you add a domain.

Get a Dell with 4-5 years of in-home warranty. You really don't want to be the tech guy on call for your grandfathers' company.

Good advice. Building your own computers for business use is rarely a good idea, since you *really* want technical support in that sort of environment.

Although the OP doesn't seem to be "building" systems (despite the extremely misleading thread title). He's just looking for suggestions on what to buy from Dell.

As other posters noted, you really don't need much for just 2D desktop work. The Optiplexes work well for this sort of setup.

I think im gonna go with the Optiplex GX620

3.2ghz
1gb Ram
160g hard drive

I can add another hard drive and Raid 1 them later correct? thanks again for all your help.

Should work fine for desktop stuff.

Probably not without an add-in RAID board... I very much doubt the MB on an Optiplex has built-in RAID. And why would you want to? RAID1 doesn't replace regular backups anyway; it's more for continuous availability of servers, etc.

Also, please shorten your sig; you have two computers and a *car*, with ONE item listed on each line. Your five-line post takes up an entire screen to view because of it. You can put multiple items on each line of your sig, or create system pages like many other posters use.
