Best Build for 300$?

Building a standard computer desktop to best perform with some performace for video gaming.

prefer to have 80 gigs
AMD
256 mb or better vid card
512 or better ram....

i did a quick run through on newegg to come up with a standard pc that was around 240 bucks...

but was hoping for some other ideas and maybe some comments on my ideas..

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ / 512KB Cache / 2000MHz FSB
MSI RX480 Neo2-F ATI Socket 939 ATX Motherboard
Ultra 512MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz CL3 Memory
Western Digital / Caviar / 40GB / 7200 / 2MB / SATA-150 / OEM / Refurbished Hard Drive (can upgrade to higher for not much more..)
NEC ND3550A / 16x8x16x DVD+RW / 16x6x16x DVD-RW
Diablo Black and Silver ATX Mid-Tower Case with Front USB Ports and 400-Watt Power Supply
EVGA GeForce 6200 LE TurboCache / 128MB GDDR2 (would like better if possible)
Cantech Keyboard and Optical Mouse Combo

A PC for $300? And you want it to have some decent video game performance? You've got to be joking.

fry's had a sempr0n/mobo combo for $30 a few weeks ago, they might still have that. use the money saved on that to upgrade the power supply & video card

video card is much more important than the processor in most games, and a 6200le isnt going to cut it for newer games.

well he isn't looking for something EXTRAVAGANT. something more along the line to run basic games such as diablo ii, older title games, and maybe something along the lines of world of warcraft.

Right now we have this compiled:

AMD 64 3200+ socket 939 - 76.00
MSI K8N Neo4-F Socket 939 - 64.00

**Forgot Video Card**
ASUS EN6200TC 256 MB PCI Express x 16 - 38.00
**Forgot Video Card**

PNY 512 Ram - 50.00
Dvd Burner Lite-on 32.00

That is just under 300, we still need case / power supply, and keyboard mouse (should be cheap)

Would like to know what it would take to get this the best bet for 300 bucks.

Thanks!

WORST GAMING PERFORMANCE YOU CAN GET! Get a 7300gt or something, but this is totally worthless if you want to game, I mean... i don't know maybe your into that, wasting money thing,😉 Very bad card unless it is just for 2d. The x1650 pro is supposed to be $100 retail.

Outpost.com has a refurb compaq sempron complete system with legal copy of Windows for $230 + shipping, get that then upgrade the graphics card later to a 7600GS or GT.

yeah, put a little more into the video card if you want to game at all. what about the OS? if you really need to be at $300, i agree with Dave, try to find something used and put a video card in it. you can actually build an ok system for a little more, say 375-400.

the best thing you can proablly do is to get a used eMachine of Compaq and then upgrade the video card. and you'd be better served by waiting a bit and saving up a bit more money. say $400. the rig you posted won't even run WoW and the 6200 uses turbocache which steals what limited amount of RAM you do have.

well what i dont understand is that my laptop is half those required items, and i play diablo ii, wow, and various other computer games just fine....

is there something i'm missing about that setup?

I'm running a 1.8 AMD XP
with 512 ram, and a 32 mb vid card...

i'm so confused

he doesn't need this computer for new extreme games, he needs it for school mainly, with a few side kicks like old fasion games (diablo ii style) or something maybe as complex as fable (lowest settings)

maybe I stated it wrong before. This system is not intended to be a high performance gaming system, just something suffecient for some games, and mainly the use of all other applications for school work, orginazation, chatting, etc.
