Best budget graphics card??

Hi everyone.
Just wondering what you think is the best graphcs card for about $160-170 max?? I'm building my parents a PC and i need a decent budget card....let me know. Thanks

180$-PCI-E 66000GT or X700XT. You need a PCI-E board, but these things are freakishly awesome.
Out of curiousity, are you using an AMD or Intel-based system?

I'm planning on using a ASUS A8V with a AMD 64 2800(939 pin)......i don't know if pci express is a viable option...what board could i use? What would you guys recommend for a budget system....upgradable but not high end gaming or multimedia or anything?

One more thing...the 9800 pro is well over $200 at newegg and everywhere i look right now....i know a vcouple weeks ago it was cheaper, but i don't know if a nvidia card would be a better option now?

generally, anything under a 9800 pro, ATI shows stronger performance. the FX 5xxx series were a bit lackluster.

a 9600XT 128MB might worka a little better for your budget. Or 9600 Pro, if you're really tight.

why do you need a powerful video card? Do your parents play games?

No, i don't need a powerful card at all just wondering what was best in the budget area,,,,i'll look at the 9600xt i think cauz its around 160. Thanks

get a 9600Pro 128 and overclock it. Then get a 6600GT AGP in 6 months when the price plummets...

If it's for your parents, and the most gaming they are going to be seeing is a hot game of freecell, then the 9800/9700s would be overkill. Could probably find a card for around $100 that would fit their needs.

I still think the 9600XT or Pro is the best option. If they won't be gaming at all even the 9600 is a bit overkill.

THIS Come on now, they're your parents, unless they're playing Doom 3, and doing extreme video editing, something like that, or much lower will suffice. Even something like THIS would be perfect, if all they're doing is surfing the web and looking at pictures.

edit: if you take the PCI-E route, get something like A-THIS

Let's us all ignore the obvious

Might as well get 9700Pro for $163 - Linky

If they wont be gaming, get them a card for $30 bucks.
