New models?

Used models?

Using a color calibrator on a regular monitor? (Some examples here)

I say the Dell IPS (or IPS equivalent) panels are pretty solid and good buys. In general it's the U-series, and the current model is the 2717D. The HP Z-Display 27" actually got pretty good reviews too. But honestly it depends on your budget because you can definitely spend 2x-3x of that too if you wanted, but I feel like a ~400 pricepoint is a solid good buy.
