I'm looking to build a machine for mostly encoding DVDs. I know the faster the better, but i wanna keep it cheap.

CPUs i'm considering are:

Duron 900-950 in the $60 range
Tbird 1-1.2 in the $70-90 range

Or the new Morgan core Durons. From a performance perspective, would i see more benefit from the new hardware data prefetch and translation look-aside buffer tweaks of the Morgan or from a Tbird with 256K of L2 cache.

I've never seen any benchmarks on encoding and i'm not sure how much L2 cache encoding uses, but i would say its data intensive.....:D

I'd get a 1.2 ghz T-Bird, they're so cheap right now... What program do you use to encode the DVDs?

I like Fair Use the best. It takes a lot longer cuz it does 4 or more passes, but the image quality is superb. I can get it to work with anything but Win98 non updated version. If i update Windows it fails to work and i can't get it to work on Win2k or WinMe.
