best budget antenna

I got a cheepo wireless 802.11g nic from a buddy. and the stock rubber ducky antenna (+2db) only gets me about ~50% signal. making changes to the router antenna/settings arent possible so i need to maximize things on the nic side. are there any antenna that would be a good step up? it works now barely.... but i would like a little more solid connection. would a +6 or +7db be enough of a difference?
(total noob at wifi if it wasnt obvious enough)

P.S. I did search and found very little info on antenna's

I would get something you can move/point more then worrying about the dB rating. Getting it out from behind your case/wires will help a lot often times.

the only way i could get it to work was by putting the computer on its front with the drives down and the antenna straight up. so getting if of the back would make a difference im pretty sure. from what i read getting it up higher makes a difference too?
