I just bought my kids new PCs, Ryzen 5 1600 with 16GB ram to play mostly Fortnite, Minecraft, and maybe some Overwatch and some other single player games.

Since they are all 1080p monitors, what budget card can I pair with this for good frame rates and a reasonable longevity? I have one hand-me-down 1050Ti card which I think would suffice but still need to get cards for the other PCs (I have 3 kids so 3 PCs to retrofit!).

Appreciate any insight :)

Hey, that's the spirit. :)

I recommend an RX 570 (I've got four of them deployed). Or perhaps, an RX 580 or two. Something around that would be great for Ryzen 1080P gaming.

Do they have high refresh-rate monitors? (Greater than 75Hz refresh?) If so, might want to consider faster cards. But with your budget, I don't think that they would fit.

On a good sale, you should be able to snag some RX 570 4GB cards, for under $130 after rebate (new). Or "gently used" (*mining) RX 570 cards, from ebay, for under $100 ea. (*I'm partial to XFX ones, as they have a "mining BIOS" in the second switch position. Plus, they tend to last.)

You can get some really good deals on amd polaris cards these days - RX 580 4GB can also be found cheap (bought one of them for my son for < £100 new with full 3 year warranty off ebay after a bit of searching).

Hey, Good Deal! Newegg has some, I think MSI Armor, RX 580 4GB *refurb* cards, for $119.99 FS in the USA here.

I know that I kind of trashed my RX 570 cards that I have in some prior comments, but honestly, they're fairly decent, supposedly, for 1080P gaming. I don't do much gaming on mine though, just mining and desktop usage (Skype, YouTube, etc.) with a 4K UHD desktop. (They excel at that.)

On a budget, they really can't be beat, for what they deliver.

I'll second the suggestion for a 570. For a new card, I think it tops the price/performance and it's performance is good in 1080.

I'd sell you my 480 for cheap but I still need it for a few months more until I can replace it.

We have a guy in our own FS/FT section that is selling a pair of pretty nice model Radeon 7950 3GB cards for $100 total. I've had good luck with stuff from here. That's $50 a card, and it will kick butt @ 1080p for the games you're describing. :)

Fwiw, the 7950 stock with no OC sits just about 5% slower than 1050ti in 2018/2019 games and is still supported with new drivers. OC, they can pass a 1050ti and start closing on the 3GB 1060. The 3GB is a cut down 6GB 1060, so if you see any of those, beware that it's not just half the vram, it's also a bit less of an actual GPU.

Why did you put 16gb ram in those PCs? You want to spend more on ram than gpu why would u do that?
You can't be serious. 16GB of DDR4 is what, $60-70? A decent 1080P GPU , say an RX 570, is like $120 new. Besides, modern gaming and having other apps open while gaming, really needs 16GB these days.

Its that cheap? I was under the impression they were still around 100,That's good then because its still around $120 in my country.

Well, if you go for the DDR4-3200 speeds, B-die, with RGB lighting, then yeah, sure, they're $120-150. But you can get basic (even DDR4-3000 speed) for like $60 for a lesser brand at Newegg. I just got some 32GB kits (2x16GB) DDR4-2667 for $120 earlier this month. They had DDR4-3000 32GB kits for not much more.

Edit: Just checked, they're down to $99!!! For 32GB of DDR4. And they probably OC some, too, at least, other RAM from this vendor has.

For a 1080p 75Hz monitor, I'm guessing RX570 would still do the trick for casual esports gaming, as well as some Civ6? Paired with a Ryzen 3600 I think that'll have me set for a while. There's definitely been more of a GPU stagnation recently and I'm not even considering 1440p gaming at this point, so I don't see a reason to spring for the nvidia 1660 or higher, nor the RX590 or new Navi cards. If I do get a 1440p monitor it'll be a desktop-use monitor, and I'll use the 1080 for gaming.

On PCPartPicker here in the US you can get 16GB CL16 DDR4-3400 for <$90 or 16GB CL17 DDR-3700 for <$95. It's incredible.
