I know this may be a rough question to ask, but I'll go ahead and ask it anyways.

I just graduated from college and got my first job. I'm moving into a new apartment next month and definately want to get broadband internet. So the question is, what is the best type and what is the best provider?

My friend back home swears by Comcast Cable, my sister loves Fast Access DSL. I heard from someone else that Verizon has fiber optic connections available. I want to get the most for the buck (bang is a lil more important than buck to me though). I live in a pretty large city (Birmingham, AL) so options should hopefully be available.

I am a big fan of Cable over DSL. I live on Long Island, NY and recently dropped Optimum Online to pickup Verizon FiOS. $49.99 for 15 MBps down / 2 MBps up
 
That's a pretty hefty connection. I'm hoping that Verizon will offer service at my new apartment.
