I'm not sure which is best...

But I have an Oster I picked up at the Goodwill for <$15 nearly new, and I love it.

My only real comment it to get at least a "2lb loaf" size.
I got the "1.5lb loaf" size and the loaves don't last long.

If budget is a concern, I'd recommend checking out Goodwill/Value villiage/etc. -- I was at my local Goodwill a couple weeks ago and noticed they had many newish looking machines for <$10.
They also had some crappy looking ones for the same price, so ymmv.

After you get one, search AT for the bread machine thread for money saving tips and good recipies.

I just bough a Sunbeam for my GF last weekend, about $50 from walmart, she loves it, very easy, about 3 hrs for a loaf, it does 2lb loaves. It makes decent bread and i can see my GF getting hooked on it. Been making a fresh loaf about everyday and trying different types of bread.

I am curious to what others say, does the machine really matter or more the measuring? if i spent $100 or so for one would it make better bread? or just have more features and the like?

I recently pulled my old one out. I make a loaf every day or 2. My wife/son loves a toasted piece for breakfast. It makes a loaf in 4 hrs, or 3 hours on the quick setting. (turns out about the same) When I make stew or chili I'll make a small loaf and cut it in half for a chili bowl.

And I second getting one used if money is an issue. It seems like they are all over the place after they became really popular a few years ago.

I personally think that the measuring and ingredients are what make the bread/pizza dough better or worse. Stuff like bread flour vs regular flour ,water temp and fresh yeast are probably what changes the taste of some breads.

I'd look around on eBay for a used one or hit the garage sales.

Get a 2lb machine that does more horizontal loaves, not a vertical machine (they make much better loaves and they're more appealing to look at)

I have a Breadman & a Sears, both work fine.

Don't worry about recipes, there are a zillion good ones on the internet, some of the best are on the Breadworld site.

Don't buy those pre boxed loaf kits, they're a serious waste of $, and it's much more fun to do it from scratch.
