I haven't seen this discussed much, so what are the brands to get, what are the ones not to get?

These are all good suggestions on cards to buy. You really cant go wrong with any of them suggested above.

PNY and MSI have horrible service and support.

Evga has VERY poor image quality on VGA, DVI is on par. (in general, personal experience with FX line)

Jetway just sucks all around

I personally reccomend Leadtek and BFG.

I'm a bit skeptical of the single slot version of the Ultra cooler. If it was that simple to just cut it down and get the same results, why would nVidia keep it a two slotter?

Edit: I must admit the Asus V9999 is a nice looking 6800 Ultra, though.

For the 6800 cards right now, NU, GT and Ultra, regardless of what company you buy it from they all come from the same manufacturer. Just pick the company that offers the best service or brand preference.

MSI and PNY have HORRIBLE support.

I havent dealt with XFX.

BFG has stellar service and support, and their cards come overclocked modestly out of the box.

MSI and Leadtek usually have the best cooling solutions and overclocking (historically, theres not enough data to check on 6800s specifically yet).

I agree with Leadtek usually having the best 2d for nvidia.

Asus and Abit are both decent, they seem to be very reliable, and they both have a decent RMA program. They are usually middle of the pack with all of their models, although asus is offering some off-spec models this time around that could be anywhere on the charts, i havent seen any numbers on the goofy cards they are pushing.

I have not dealt with Albatron.

Evga had some severe 2d IQ problems on VGA through the FX series that was attributed later to low quality components on the card, on top of that, evga only offers a 1 year warrenty.

as always these are my opinions if you had great luck with your evga FX5200 and when it burned out after 367 days they sent you a diamond studded FX5950, more power to you.

I personally have an XFX 6800GT coz it was the cheapest I could find. No problems with it thus far, and yes, the box is kinda mean looking, but the card itself it bone stock reference. Even the sticker on the heatsink has Nalu on it rather than a custom image.

Alright well thanks for the input, but as I bought the card three months ago it's not necessary anymore ;)

Anyway the BFG has worked beautifully up till now, so I haven't even had to bother with customer service, and has been a great overclocker.

Albatron and ASUS GeForce 6800 Ultra Vendor Review

Asus has to compensate for the smaller heatsink by locking the fan to run at full speed and it is very loud.

PNY Graphic Card Warranty

PNY's warranty on the 6800 line (and others listed in the URL above) is not lifetime, it is 1 year until you register the card online after which they give you an extra 2 years making it a 3 yr. warranty.

My PNY says "3 year warranty" right on the box. No mention of lifetime. This is fine for me as I usually don't stick with a vid card for more than 18 months at best anyways.

EDIT: Actually, it says 1 year but extended to 3 years when you register on the PNY website.

Asus is moving to the hated ECS for manufacturing all their cards Shadenfroh. That should knock them off anyone's list.
