Hey all, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on what would be the best brand or even specific model for analog quality. We bought the 42" Sharp Black Friday dealie, but since returned it, and the analog quality was very lacking.

I realize that the quality won't ever be quite as good as it would look on an SDTV, but I know that some have better quality than others (and some have built-in technology ala anti-aliasing and whatnot such as the LG has)

Anyhow, which models would you suggest to gain the best analog quality possible on an HDTV. Thanks for the help guys!

(Also if any of ya have suggestions on a good home theater specific forum to go to, let me know. =) )

They pretty much all look like crap with an analog signal. Luckily it won't be much longer before we won't have to worry about it.

Again, I'm just looking for the best quality I can get on an HDTV. I know it's going to look worse than a CRT, but I'm looking for the best HDTV for analog. As for analog, I really don't care about TV signals, as I watch broadcasted television maybe once a week. What I was more concerned about were my older gaming systems such as the Dreamcast, original Playstation, SNES games, etc.

The Pioneer Elite Kuro models are said to be great with an analog signal. I didn't see it when I looked at them though. Your older gaming systems are going to look horrible no matter what you buy.

Well, I have a Sony Bravia 46" XBR4, which was supposed to be one of the best LCDs available earlier this year, and I regret ever buying it. It comes nowhere near the color and contrast quality of a plasma. It's "ok" in HD because you don't notice the banding as much, but any SD signal is close to intolerable and looks like pixelated vomit.

Take a look at one of the new 1080p plasmas, or if you're planning to stick to SD for a while, I guess you're better off with a 720p one anyway.

I have a Pioneer Kuro 4280 plasma and analog channels look great on it. These Kuro's also have CRT quality black levels which makes a *huge* differance vs. any LCD ive tried.

Garbage in, garbage out. Show me a pic to prove otherwise.

per television viewing, the problem is the actual source, not the fact that that source is analog or digital

my first source was tvmax cable service (analog coax straight to television) most channels were good, a few in specific were really good.... 70% hd-like
second source was att u-verse... they advertise this as their "fiber optic" line, but at-least inside the house, it goes from coax to dvr box. hdtv picture superb. sdtv pictures were really good, and some extremely good (sometimes 90% hd quality)

now im using comcast cable service , coax to dvr. the hdtv picture is merely okay (equivalent to att digital sdtv). digital sdtv is passable (equivalent to tvmax analog). analog sdtv looks like poo-poo biscuits. i cant even STAND to watch it. colors have red bias, blurry as hell, and have that terrrrible dark overcast to it. pure crap.

im moving soon, and will switch back to att. despite their abysmal customer service, their actual product is good

The Pioneer Elites are just about the best when it comes to HD AND SD image quality. They come with a pretty damn expensive video processor that cleans up the image. Will it look as good as a CRT? No. But then again, a CRT didn't have to fill a 50-60" wide screen either. If you had a 50-60" CRT SD would look like crap on it too. If you want a better video processor than what the Pioneer has to offer, you'll have to bump it up to a Fujitsu, but let me tell you, it ain't a little bump when it comes to price and I don't believe the SD image improvement will justify the price difference. You could also get a separate video processor, but the good ones aren't cheap. So in the end, the best and most affordable solution is the Pioneer Elites. Are they cheap? No. Are they one of the best HDTVs for SD? Yes.
