I've heard Taiyo Yuden is the best... I believe Sony and Fuji sell this media - and sometimes you can get T.Y. in bulk form too ! But are there any other brands that are great ?

Thanks in advance.

I'm also using Imations...but they're made in Taiwan. Get the TYs from Japan :)

A vote for Verbatim/Mitsubishi! By far the best ones I have used so far! (DataLifePlus).

Fuji made in japan are TY which is a good brand. You can get a 50 pack on sale sometimes for $12.99 then $2.99 after the mail in rebate. Most of the time you can get your rebate back in 30 to 45 days maybe sometimes alittle longer. Plus sometimes the 100 pack of Fuji cds are on sale for $26.99 and $6.99 after the mail in rebate.

I've honestly never noticed a difference between name brand media. I stay away from generic CDRs but anything with a name brand has worked fine for me.

SCSIfreek how long does it take to get the rebates please, what brand cd-rs, who are they made by, how are they free when you don't get your tax back so you pay alittle but not enough to matter, how much are they before the mail in rebate, and where do you get them? (Guessing you get them at compusa or something)

I have had no problems with the following:

CompUSA CDRs
Imations CDRs
Hi-Val<----This one had a little problem, had to call them up and fax them my copies
Philips
Fuji<-----never had a problem with them. (nowadays it is very hard to get them free)
TDK

These FREE CDRs were obtained within the last 2 years. Please keep in mind that i scan all my rebates and save them in my computer as a reminder. rebates normally takes (8-12 Weeks) anything more you better call or visit their website.

SCSIfreek well i get my Fuji rebates in 30 to 45 days maybe sometimes only alittle more but not much longer because i send them in a certain way to get them back faster that Fuji has. So thats mostly why i pay alittle for the Fuji cd-rs instead of getting the free ones. Plus my plextor 24x 10x 40x cd-rw drive i think likes good cd-rs better like Fuji which are TY, etc. My first rebate i got in 30 days which was from a 50 pack of Fuji (TY) media. My 2nd rebate for a 100 pack of Fuji (TY) Media was in about 45 to 46 days. So it was pretty quick. They claim 20 days but thats without the time it takes to be sent to them and then back to me. So i added 10 days and came up with 30 days and it seems like thats about how long it takes for some of them but not all. But still 46 days is not bad. I just hate waiting 8 to 12 weeks + for rebates so sense fuji had a fast rebate thing i thought it was a good idea to try sense most people said they got their rebates back pretty soon. Plus they have a number you can call just in case.

SCSIfreek yeah but only free after mail in rebate. How much do you pay for them at first for let says a 100 pack or 50 pack for the other brands? And how long does the rebates take to get if you even get them for those? By the way they can't be totally free sense you never get your tax back. Inless you got them free with all instant rebates but i never seen a deal that good. Heck i would go in the store like 5 times and get 5 packs if that ever happen. But it won't :( Not even during the thanksgiving sales :( But that would be cool if it could. Even $1 to $5 would be cool with a rebate to make them free. SCSIfreek btw are the other brands you buy do you care where they are made or how good quality they are when you put data on them ?

I wonder why its so hard to get Fuji cd-rs that are TY media free now a days.

example:

50 pack Hi Val CDRs were free after mail in rebate - $10.00 rebate <---you're right they aren't free, you'll have to pay for the tax. but very close to being free. the rebate took 10 day after the initial 8 weeks, I had to call them up to get the check processed, was a hassle nonetheless.

example:
Philips 40x 100pk CDRs were $19.00 from bestbuy, $5 from bestbuy and $14.00 from philips. those came back after 8 weeks.

Most of my problems were dealing with I/O magic rebates, digital research, Hi-val (they're basically the same company). If you don't keep track of your receipt and records they'll never send you that rebate check.

Kodak's are great. Too bad they're SUPER expensive.

Too bad they don't make 'em anymore!

Additionally, I like the TDKs made by TDK themselves ... not the Ritek crap ... although i've heard that Ritek has improved their "crap" lately leaving CMC Magnetics back in the poophole. I also believe that TDK has gotten oiut of the media game as well. Or maybe they just closed their Georgia plant.
