After learning just about everything I need to know to tweak my system in the 9x MS OSes, I've decided to move to 2000 Professional. Does anyone have a suggestion of a good book that'll teach me everything I need to know to get a system running and to tweak it?

I don't need to know minute details behind the OS, such as exactly how the TCP/IP stack works or how to completely reprogram the OS in three minutes using only a toothpick and the tab of a Coke can :), but I'd like one that's not too general either - I'm looking for something that includes things such as the advantages / disadvantages of using ACPI (and that explains how to disable it) and that explains what exactly the services do - a book that covers everything. Do any of you have a recommendation for me? Thanks,
Shawn

Well you are going to have a hard time picking a book that ONLY has your specific wants in detail without having extra details.
I use the windows2000 professional bible and it works great for refrence for me...but its not a book that you just pick up and read like a novel...so far this is the best one that I have found (I dont want to be MCSE certifed for it or anything, but I want to know my way around the OS pretty well)...

What about those Sams books Teach yourself xxx in 24 hours? I haven't used it for 2k as I am studying for my certifications but I did pick up one "learn TCP/IP in 24hrs" and it is pretty nice. Go to the bookstore and just flip thru some and see what appeals to you. Alot of people like the Sybex books too but they may be too in depth for you.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep em coming! :)

Kappo: I understand that I'll find other information in the books, and, looking back at my post, I probably worded it badly. I just want something that covers all that you need to know and does it in a way that the average skilled 9x computer user could understand. I'm fine with extra information, and would love to see as much of it as possible!

BTW, has anyone here read Special Edition: Using Windows 2000 Professional by Que? I've read pretty good reviews on the bookstores' sites and would like to know your opinion on it.

Mark Misasi writes some of the best NT books around. He has a very recent one called Mastering Windows 2000 Professional that's really good and in fact, we're using it to train our support techs at work for an upcoming Win95 to Win2K migration on all of our desktops. I've got the whole "Mark Minasi's Windows 2000 Resource Kit" and it's great but you probably don't need all 4 books unless you're a sysadmin.

I know this is getting off topic, but for those who know Windows NT and want to read a book that does a good job of explaining Linux using Windows NT terms and concepts, he just put out another great book called "Linux for Windows Nt/2000 Administrators: The Secret Decoder Ring".
