BEST BOARD TO O/C MOBILE BARTON?

Been overclocking my mobile barton but my gigabyte will only let me increase the juice by 10%, what's a good board beside the abit nf7-s?

Thanks

NF7-S or Epox 8RDA+. Apparently DFI Infinity has been popular recently as well. These are all power boards.

Well...the best board IMO for o/c'ing these Bartons is the NF7/NF7-S hands down, but since you don't want that for some reason, you should check out the Asus or the new DFI Lanparty board seems to hit high FSB's. One thing to be aware is that the Asus doesn't allow you to run any lower than 1.5v IIRC, but that's probably not going to be an issue for you.

Another thing to consider is I don't believe the DFI has the holes around the socket for the bolt down HSF's, but I'm not 100% sure.

🙂

I think the 8RDA+ is no longer in production...

You are right about that but I got the last one for $30 from newegg refurbished section and it still kicks butt of 8RDA3+ which suppose to be an "improvement".

how about Abit NF7. Its different from NF7-S 😉, it overclocks just as good and costs $30 less if you don't need all the bells and whistles. Otherwise Asus A7n8X-Deluxe or DFI LanParty II revision B.

Well, i would just like to throw in my .02, saying that my Biostar M7NCD-Pro has kick ass overclocking abilities.....i popped in my NON-mobile 2500+ and set the FSB to 200, didnt even touch voltages, and i was prime stable for 24 hours....I havent tried going farther because i have crappy kingston pc3200 value ram, but im gonna go buy some hyperX 3500 soon =D

This board doesnt have a slew of features like IEEE1394, or SATA, but it has dual channel ram , and a nice BIOS

Since I'm an overclocking guru so to speak I wouldn't go with anything but the Abit-NF7/NF7-S v1.2 or v2.0. These are an overclocker's dream mobos.🙂

I'm running my Mobile XP2500+ on my Asus A7N8X-Deluxe no problems. It lets you take up the voltage to 1.85 (+ 0.05V = 1.90V) as I find the board generally overvolts by that much.

that's one expensive board

If you don't want an abit nf7-s 2.0 (don't know why you wouldn't) then the only alternative in my head in the same price range would be the DFI Ultra Infinite. Gets you higher fsb and more juice to the ram (vdimm goes to 3.3v I believe instead of only 2.9v) than the other brands. The DFI LanParty Rev. B is an amazing board, but it's pricey.

I would get an NF7S 2.0. (wait, I did 🙂). Ive had the DFI board, and yeah you could get a high FSB but it didnt seem to amount to much. So im back on my A7N8X Deluxe which i have my barton running 2623mhz right now. I have an NF7S waiting to go in, so i can get some more vcore options. Despite all the Lanparty B hype, i still recommend the NF7S

High FSB matters a great deal. Say you are running 213x12 = 2.556 GHz and 222x11.5=2.553 GHz with the same memory timings. I guarantee it to you that you will see approximately 2% increase in benchmarks in this second case. So the higher you can run FSB the better, assuming you have the same memory timings. No wonder DFI Infinity has been popular.

YEah no kidding. I had a DFI. I got it up to 238 FSB, but it didnt make a craps worth of difference over the 225fsb on my Asus. You have to disable CPC in order to get the high FSB on the DFI board, which kills performance. At 10.5x225 (2376mhz) on my A7N8X, i got 19,229. At 10x238 (2380mhz) on the DFI board, i got 19,580. Wow. Plus i went through 2 DFIs, and both stopped working. Some have gone through 4 or 5. So i went back to my A7N8X until i get an NF7S installed.

FWIW - I'n no OC guru, only a tinkerer

I've built lots of machines around the NF7-S.
I'm currently running the DFI LanParty NF2Ultra revision A (I preffer the ATA RAID for now)

Performance wise I think its picking Nits. Decide what features you want. The NF7-S is hands down the best value IMHO. Get the NF7 and save some cash if you don't need the extra features. If you want it all and are willing to pay the premium the DFI board is the Bentley of the bunck (Luxuriouse and Powerfull and Fast)

For me the extra's and ATA RAID made the DFI borad more than worth it. For My brother the NF7-S was the best option. Fur a cut rate machine or If you don't want the integrated soundstorm audio then go NF7.

You can't make a bad decision IMO.

yeah never worry about the performance differences from board to board with the same chipset
they will all be in about 3% of each other
just get one with a great bios and quality components
abit nf7-s and their new nforce2 boards are the best out there imho

i would give second place to the dfi and asus nforce2 boards
maybe third to everyone else
