ill be buying an X2 4400+ as soon as i have the money (and theyre released)
until i do, ill be using my 3000+ on it

i cant choose between the main 3 reccomended, MSI, gigabyte and DFI nforce 4 ultras
gigabyte has a multitude of SATA ports
dfi has onboard power switches, but sound comes seperate from mobo
msi has four PCI slots and includes a rounded IDE cable and also has optical audio out

cant decide?
what do you think

How about we wait for the X2 to ship and see if there are any problems. Right now it's pointless to discuss this topic as no one knows. As to using a 3000+ someone with experience with those boards can help with specifics.

DFI

The sound comes from the Karajan audio module which snaps into the board, it's not really seperate, however, if you happen to have a case with a 120mm fan (as I do) there is a possibilty the Karajan module won't fit. (this isn't always the case, some cases with 120mm fans are fine, mine isn't though).
 
Yeah I will back that up about DFI, if you want a good OC then you really can't fight DFI on that. However, if you plan on leaving it at stock, then go for the MSI.
 
MSI are great for overclocking as well. And they are stable and good quality. DFI is stable and good quality as well, but I just think MSI is better because of all the extra stuff you get with it. Also I just think the MSI Neo4 Platinum boards look more professional. I know that doesnt have anything to do with the perfomance but its justs appeals to me.
 
Asus boards have never steered me wrong. The venerable P4P800 Deluxe in this system has served admirably, and will continue to serve until another Asus s939, dual core ready, motherboard takes it spot. 🙂
 
Actually, athough I own a DFI, I chose Gigabyte as the one to handle the new CPU. I think you will find it to have the highest quality components of the three. I am sure the flames will ensue, but I stand by my decision.

Well, we know it will run on the Asus board; Anand did the whole article with that board. However, others will surely work also.

I'm with Bar81 on this one; stand pat until you have better info. If you must buy now, get the Asus because you know it works.

Mild? ASUS or MSI NF4 variants. I like the msi cause it at least has some resemblence of a sound card on board.

Persoanlly I dont even understand throwing that ALC/realteck type dog sh1t on a motherboards period. Either do it right or not at all and let people buy sounds.
