I've used uTorrent for a while...and while I liked it, it would make webbrowsing unbearably slow, no matter what bandwidth settings I chose. This even happened when I was on a slow torrent dling at 10KB/s or so, and everything would slow to a crawl until I closed it.

That started happening since 0.5, and I haven't bothered since, since azureus works perfectly fine, and I have plenty of ram anyway.
 
doesn't azureus have the least amount of HDD thrashing compared to others?

I love Azureus due since it's feature-packed. I have plenty of RAM to handle it 😛

it is utorrent.com (not mu), drop it with the nerdy correctness, it doesn't f***ing matter if people know the real name as long as nerds like you know the difference you can have an inside joke and laugh with your friends at people who don't know any better.

They might have wanted to be nerd cool and call it micro torrent or mu torrent and use the actual symbol, but they were stuck with utorrent.com and advertising it as utorrent and people see the u and say u and not mu or micro. Either way is correct because it isn't like there's an actual u utorrent out there competing with mutorrent, they both mean the same thing.

Oh and another vote for utorrent.
 
I use My-Torrent for a long time, but it never went above 60 kB/s(ISP blocks something or other) and that was rare. Azureus is always fast, even without a forwarded port.
 
I use uTorrent.

My progression has gone roughly...
Bittorrent > Shadow's Experimental (Bittornado) > ABC > Azureus > uTorrent

uTorrent can do damn near everything Azureus can, and does it with a far smaller memory footprint. Sure, I've got the memory to run Azureus, but why take all that up when it's totally not necessary? I prefer to save it for other applications. 😛
 
I use uTorrent, used to use mainly Azureus.

I didn't mind the memory usage of Azureus, but uTorrent does everything just as well, and uses less resources for me. So why not?
 
Azureus. Those complaining about its resource usage either haven't updated it or haven't updated their java in far too long, and are an example of PICNIC.
 
Utorrent easily and BitComet isnt to bad either. Though Utorrent does seem to eat all the bandwidth even with a capped download but I've found it can be remedied to a degree by using Firefox.

Not just the speed, but are you also limiting the number of connections? And DHT counts as well, even more connections. Try reducing the maximum amount of connections some.

Definitely, utorrent allows you to limit your up and down speed on a global level (bandwidth for all your torrents) and then even on an individual level with some options in between. Then it also allows you to limit the number of connections you make globally across all your torrents and per individual torrent, as well as number of upload slots per all your torrents (which you can also change manually per individual torrent if you so desire)

After that you should setup your number of active torrents and active downloads so that you can have an effective queue

Plus the number of half-open connections as well. Thats what really does it. I think at default utorrent using 8 of the 10 that you have. After some modification, mine using 40 out of the 50 that I have so for everything else, it's like nothing has changed (get it? normally you only get 10 half-open connections, with utorrent running you only get 2 but with the mod you get 10 remaining half-open connections)
