We moved our boat this year to a covered boat slip. (22' Pontoon on a lake in Tennessee)

It's been there a few weeks already and we've noticed a lot of birds are roosting up in the rafters and roof. I don't mind their little habitat, but they tend to leave droppings everywhere. I'm trying to figure out how to make them clear out and go somewhere else.

I thought about the ultrasonic bird repellers, but didn't know how well they worked. Some are $25-30. I noticed Black & Decker sells a 3 pack of rodent repellers for $20 @ Home Depot last night. I'm just not sure if the frequencies will make a difference. I do have power available, so this may be an option. Anyone used them before?

The birds are roosting about 18 feet up and there's no direct line of sight to them. It makes it impossible to use the anti-bird goo you can buy.

Any other methods for getting those things to find another home?

Plastic/rubber snakes placed around where they are roosting and in the path of them getting there and on your boat.

Motion-sensitive autoloader shotguns firing bird shot with minimum elevation of at least 45 degrees.

Sorry...I should have mentioned that a few other boat owners have the plastic owls and rubber snakes hanging from the ceiling on strings. :D

Those things may work in the immediate area, but I'm thinking the ultrasonic approach may be the best....maybe I'll get an owl too just so there's another.

If you want to the buy the bird repellent then Ultrasonic bird repellent is very useful. It produces an ultrasonic wave’s sound that is easily heard by the bird. It is very effective, useful and helps to get rid of birds.

I second the cat installation. The marina in Florida my family uses has employees there that live on their own boats there to provide constant help and security. They all have boat cats, and unsurprisingly their boats sport little to no bird shit.

If maintenance of said cat system is undesirable, then I think the best second option would be the sneaky use of a high power air rifle. Hoist one or two of those disease spreading, winged rats from the mainsail and watch the rest give your boat a wide berth.

I've had good results with various movement producing wind-based deterrents on geese, but other birds gradually begin to ignore them.

Go make friends with a falconry aficionado, invite he or she down to the lake for beers and boat rides! Lunch is on you and their bird is covered too!
