I don't think you can touch a real big screen for under $1k unless you find a really good deal.

you can get HD ready tube tvs for under that ~30"

really thought i wouldn't bother with a tv right at $1000

either i'd get a regular old 32" tube for $400 or go for a projector

Apex RPTV???

No way in hell you could get me to even take one for free!

I have an Apex 27" for the bedroom (don't really care too much about quality when I'm watching TV with my contacts out.) ;)

The convergence is awful, dot pitch is about an inch tall. I can just imagine how crappy their RPTVs would be.

umm...I am not trying to tell you that Apex is a crap TV...but Apex is a crap TV.

If you can spend $1500, go for the Toshiba 51H83. It can be had for around that price and is a great set. If you want to spend a little less than that, look for the Mitsubishi VS50111

You wont be disapointed in either one of those sets.

While we're on the subject...
I'm thinking of getting either the Mitsubishi WS-55313 (link) or the Samsung HCN-5529W (link), both for about $2k. Thoughts?

but spend the extra cash for the ws-55613, you wont regret it. The netcommand, better guns, built in HD tuner, and built in card reader make it worth the extra couple hundred.

Who carries the 613? Bestbuy's site just shows the WS-55513.

yeah...the clerks there couldnt explain the differences between the sets, so they dont bother carrying it. Mitsu should have a dealer locator on their website...where do you live?

You are not going to get much of a good HDTV for $1000. $1500 is more of a price range you need to look at if you desire a decent quality HDTV. I don't have a HDTV but I have wanted to get one for a while so I have looked around for a while.

I'm in Nebraska. I don't know if there are any authorized dealers here or not. The 613 is probably out of my price range. The 513 may even be too. I'm really trying to keep as close to $2k as I can.

The 55513 should retail at about $2499...I am sure you can get someone to discount it down close to $2k. If not, the 313 isnt a bad set at all. You can never go wrong with Mits.

All righty. If I can get them to knock a couple hundred off the 513 I'll definitely go for that. Thanks.

Oh, one more question. If I have to get it from Bestbuy, can you haggle with them at all on prices for stuff like this? Or is it strictly what's posted? I plan on buying the TV outright so I thought that might be worth a break.

I'd like to find a 20" crt monitor for watching dvd's..doesn't have to have a tuner in it..should have a multi stage combl filter to minimize dot crawl and improved sharpness..
