I can confirm the GM 3800 3.8L V6 engine being a good one. My first car was a '92 Pontiac Bonneville, with 176k miles. The engine never needed any major maintenance. Just spark plugs, the sprk plg wires, filters...thats it. Pretty solid engine.

My first (real) car as well. Actually my current car is very similar. :p

Word. After all that driving, the only thing that went out on it was the AC. We go that partially fixed, but ended up giving the car away so it didn't matter. It had an excellent ride and was very roomy. :)

Yeah, I loved mine as well. It had much lower mileage (108k when I got it, +10k after a year) and everything worked fine...until I got rear-ended and it was totalled last August. :(

So I basically ended up replacing it with a newer version (1994 SSEi with the supercharged engine and lots of other stuff), couldn't be happier with it. And it's great to have all the room considering how often I move all my stuff for school. :p

Sweet. Yeah, the room definitely came in handy. It was easy for me and my friends to fit in it very comfortably.

Hmmm...found a 99 Contour SVT with 43k miles going for $7000...which is comfortably above blue book. I may check it out still...

Also, this 3800 sounds pretty impressive from what I've read on the net from other sources. Is there any particular package it does best in?

Not sure...I would think the 3800 is reliable in any car...but that would be JUST the engine. After that it depends on the make and model. I myself wouldn't be against a newer Bonneville.

Oh no. I'm talking about...well, the other factors that make a car nice besides the engine.

4.3L V6's are also bullet proof, but mainly only in SUV's of GM's.

but the Intrigue is a very nice car.

Bonneville is a very quick car also.

Grand National?

:D

Seriously though, the GTP Grand Prix is nice sleeper car for the $$. Gets great milage for the output and is pretty bullet proof.

The Grand Prix is one of the better looking GM cars out there IMHO. Still prone to the typical GM fit & finish rattles and squeeks though.

w00t!

:thumbsup::D

But they are getting very expensive.

Anything with the corporate GM 3800 is damn near bulletproof. Inexpensive, decent gas mileage, decent power.

As mentioned above, tossing on a supercharger makes them all that much more fun. :)

Don't overlook the Pontiac Bonnevilles and such either. LOTS of confort and power.
