Best bet for used domestic, mid-size, V6 coupes?

Been looking around at these...

Chevy Monte Carlo
Chrysler Sebring
Ford Contour*
Dodge Avenger
Mercury Cougar
*obviously not a coupe. Outside of the Mustang, has Ford offered a coupe slightly larger than the Escort/Focus in recent years?

Anyone have opinions on these or better ideas?

the cougar has terrible reliability problems according to edmunds, the monte carlo is actually a lumina/impala. of the ones you mentioned, i'd probably be interested in finding a SVT contour. it's quite rare.

The 97 and older real cougar and t-bird are really nice but not in the v6 form. The v8s last forever and get in the high 20s mpg highway.

Well, the Escort would be a compact though, no? I can't think of a Ford midsize coupe outside of the Mustang...

if you must buy a domestic V6 coupe, i'd go for something unique. therefore i like the contour SVT and the stratus R/T... now for reliability... im not so sure about the dodge.

oh and the intrigue is pretty ok. i think there are some sort of common problems in it tho.

i also remember the pontiac grand prix GT/GTP coupes. those are huge and the interior are crap but i like how they look outside.

Buick Riviera, Mmmmm Supercharger.
Or if you want something more tame find a Buick Regal coupe with a 3800 series II, darn near bulletproof.

Edit: On second thought the newest Regal Coupes are approaching 10 years old now, probably shouldnt look at them as closely as I said.

I had a Mercury Cougar for a short time, had horrible electrical problems with it, very stylish, but thats about it.

Anyone have opinions on these or better ideas?

You can't polish a turd. Limiting your self to "domestic" (canadian and mexican made) cars, will prevent you from getting something that is actually nice.

I second the mazda6, but get the 5 door, not the sedan.

i'd shop for a SVT focus. it ain't a V6, and it's a hatch, but IMO it looks nice, will be easy on gas, and is relatively unique. goes for about $10k.

although most cars are considered imports, they are probably built here. Most toyotas and nissans for instance are made in the good ole USA. So it really doesn't matter what car you get.

I had the misfortune of renting a late model Monte Carlo and it is a total piece of crap. The Honda Accord coupe is a freakin' Ferrari in comparison.

Why are you discounting foreign makes?
